Having only started watching in 1993, this came as a bit of a
surprise. His rise to fame had to start somewhere, eh? :)

Thank you both for this service to those interested in the Close.
Is there similar info for the Parade?
How many shops are there?
Krazy Cutts
Deborah's Florists
Trading Post
Hair Salon
Pizza Parade
etc. etc.
How many flats are there above the shops?
Who lives, has lived in each?
Are there only two occupied now?
(One by Sarah White and Vince Earl, the other by Diane Burke, Alexandra
Fletcher and Tiffany Chapman)?
Which flat is above which shop?

Weren't Krazy Cuts (Kutz?) and Deborah's Florists in the same premises? The
same shop as the Gift Box and Sinbad's second-hand electrical shop?
So, 4 shops?
>How many flats are there above the shops?
Good question......at a guess, 4? ;-)

Does Mike live in one or is that the same as Ron's?
>Which flat is above which shop?
Pass again.
Some good questions there, I hope someone knows the answers!
Before Bar Brookie, the premises played host to La Luz. I know that the
tunnel at ground level was filled in, but wasn't La Luz essentially on the
first floor? Bar Brookie doesn't seem to have a first floor as
such..........does it?
Gray.
OK, Rachel Jordache moved out of her flat to move in with Jacqui and Katie
after the Christian Wright thing. Now I think that Mike's flat (where Ron and
Bev now live) is the same flat that Rachel Jordache vacated. This is also the
same flat that Nat and Georgia vacated, and it's directly above the chip shop,
since Tinhead flooded the previous pizza parlour - remember?
So I think Ron lives above Chips With Everything.

Isn't Bar Brookie split-level? The first floor is visible from the ground
floor, it's a sort of gallery.

The Split level is all part of the ground floor - the toilets are on the
1st floor, up the steps at the back of the bar.

Yes, Pat did have an office above a shop when she ran the advertising agency
with her former boss (Karen?). Memorable because it had a rather odd round
window. I believe that it was at the end of the parade above what was most
recently Sinbad's shop. I think that it was later converted into a flat and
Ron was living there at the time of the explosion. Has Ron now moved into
the flat which Mike had been sharing with Fireman Ben? Is Ron's flat
currently empty?
>Above the hairdressers - wasn't that turned into a
>massage parlour erm sorry a beauty therapy room or something? Is that right
>or am I just confusing the situation further?
I'm sure that you are right and to the best of my knowledge it is still used
as such.
I reckon that the flats' history is confusing because not all the premises
above the shops have been used as flats at the same time. Pat's office was
converted into a flat whilst the premises above the hairdressers was
converted from a flat into the beauty parlour. The question therefore would
seem to hinge upon how many shops there are.
The potted history of Barry Grant kindly posted by Andrzej states that there
are five shop units. That *must* include La Luz/Bar Brookie, so I'm going
to attempt to summarise the position:
Left to right from Bar Brookie....
1. Bar Brookie which includes what was the 'tunnel'.
....was formerly La Luz nightclub
....presumably incorporates the 'gallery' area and/or first floor.
2. Chips with Everything
....was the pizza parlour
....first floor = flat currently used by Ron/Bev/Mike (previously used by
Ben and Mike, prior to that, Mick - remember Jenny Swift held him hostage
there)
3. Hairdressers
....first floor = beauty parlour (was originally a flat used by Terry.
IIRC, he refused to move out when Jacqui Dixon Business Woman PLC wanted to
convert it into the beauty parlour)
4. Solicitor's office
....first floor = flat currently used by Jacqui/Rachel/Katie (i.e. the flat
in which Max and Jacqui were trapped following the explosion; must be
adjacent to the end flat)
....was previously Dixon's Trading Post
5. Sinbad's former shop (presumably empty at the moment)
....first floor = flat (again, presumably empty at the moment [1]). Had
been Ron's flat until the blast; suspect that this was the flat which played
home to Rachel and Christian[2], Rachel then moving back to Jacqui's; was
originally Pat's office.
....was previously the Gift Box, Deborah's Florist, Kowboy Kutz (sp?),
originally -?- or was Kowboy Kutz the first occupier?
That's about it....anyone who is able to add or dispute any of this is quite
welcome to do so.
A couple of things I'm not sure about are:
i) the order of the Chippie and the Hairdressers. Might they be the other
way around?
ii) did Barry use have a flat at one time? (If so, probably that above the
hairdressers)
iii) one of the flats was used by the counterfeiters for a while
iv) which flat did Nat & Georgia live in? [Paul suggests '3'. Quite
possible, or it could have been '5']
Regards,
Gray.
[1] As far as I can tell, the end flat and shop which exploded are being
repaired by Greg Shadwick. Presumably those repairs are on-going. Don't
expect him to finish too quickly though such as is his wont! (but then he
has got other things on his mind, eh). Perhaps this flat will be ready in
time to play host to Phil's new yuppies....?
[2] Paul suggested that Rachel/Christian lived in Mike's flat above the
chippy. Equally possible to my mind.

Kowboy Kutz was the first business at the end of the Parade, until Barry
torched the place. Derek O'Farrell took over the unit briefly as a charity
shop before sister DD turned it into a florists. Patricia and Karyn
(sic)had the office above the shop.
Colin
mike (and formerly Ben too) now lives in the flat previously inhabited by
the ill-fated Rachael and Christian.
Ron (and fornerly Bev) has another flat of his own which i know from his
trial after the explosion is 2 Brookside Parade.
Don't ask me which shops the latter two are over because i haven't the
foggiest idea.
Bar Brookie has some space above it which it was going to have as club space
but J.C. Bradley told Jaquie to turn it into flats. i'm not sure what has
happened to that. Also, "JaquieD's" has a beauty salon upstairs (i know
someone has already said that!)
can someone tell me when the parade was built or came into significance in
Brookside? i don't think it was there at the beginning.
