Jonathan Gordon-Davies. Married Laura Wright. Both solicitors, she was
more of a campaigning solicitor whereas he was motivated by money.

My minds not clear here, are we talking about the guy who went out
with that blonde canadian chick ?

The "character that died in his bed in the first episode of the soap" didn't
exist, though a character did just that in 1983 (some months in) - his name was
Gavin Taylor and he was the first owner of the house now owned by James
Corkhill Esq.
The "Canadian chick" (whose name was indeed "Cheryl") was a later partner of
the solicitor whose wife had died. They met on a skiing holiday where said
lawyer was accompanied by his friend Terry Sullivan (later to become an owner
of the solicitor's house, which was first occupied by the Huntingtons and is
currently up for sale (to the Phelans?).
Mind you, I never watch the programme myself.

Yup, Gavin Taylor died in February 1983, some months after the Close
characters moved in. I can remember Petra Taylor as though it were
yesterday, shaking Gavin's lifeless body and saying "Wake oop Gavin, Wake
oop!"
BTW, what's happened to Alexandra Pigg (nee Sandra McKibbin) recently? Saw
her in a small-hours ITV showing of the 1989 film version of "A Chorus of
Disapproval" a couple of weeks ago.
Now she was a finely dimensioned woman! Ranks No. 2 behind Amanda Burton
(Heather) in all-time Brookside fanciability stakes.

I thought that she wrote to a former First Secretary of the Communist
Party of the Soviet Union and escaped across the iron curtain to live
in supposed bliss under that regime.
Perhaps she was too embarrassed when the iron curtain was lifted and
decided not to return to the UK or possibly the advent of Chernenko
and Andropov to the Secretaryship led to her elimination as having been
a protege of the former regime.

He was in an episode of The Bill recently. He played a dentist who got
caught up in an attack on a prostitute. (The actor's name is Stephen
Pinner, I think)
You're right, he hasn't changed a bit since those halcyon Brookie days!
What about the actress who played Laura (Jane Cunliffe?) - has anyone
seen her recently?
