It would however take more than half a decade before the Prada Company began to appear on the worldwide fashion scene. Miuccia Prada, the granddaughter of Mario Prada, inherited Fratelli Prada from her mother in 1978. A Dark chapter in the history of Prada started during the 1970’s when the company started to decline, and when Miuccia gained control over Fratelli Prada it was a rather anonymous leather goods manufacturer – something Miuccia Prada set out to change. She diced to expand the business into haute couture and thereby starting a new brighter chapter in the history of Prada.
Miuccia Prada was no older than 28 when she inherited her grandfather's creation and became responsible for the legacy of the history of Prada, but she managed to create several innovative designs that successfully introduce the company on the fashion scene. One of her earliest ideas was the easy to carry - but robust and high quality - backpack bags made from a waterproof fabric called Pocone. Miuccia Prada had a Doctorate degree in political science and when she turned 30 she was a dedicated communist. She also expanded the Prada business into exclusive tote bags. Her smooth black bags combined innovative and modern materials, such as parachute nylon, with flat and classical design, and her creations soon became very popular from their simple beauty and practicality.
