Actually, Amanda Burton's character was Heather Huntington (not what you put
above). Her maiden (unmarried) name eventually turned out to be "Havisham" (the
same as the spinster in "Great Expectations"), but that was later. Heather
lived with husband Roger (a solicitor) at the house where the Simpsons now
live. They were in the programme from the very first episode on 2/11/1982.
Roger was played by actor Rob Spendlove. As a matter of fact, I think that the
very first scene in the very first show was one between Roger and Heather, who
(like everyone else) had only just moved into their brand-new house.
Heather was originally a trainee accountant, and later qualified and went into
practise. Roger was found out in an affair and she kicked him out and reverted
to her maiden name "Havisham". Heather, like Amanda and her character in
"Silent Witness", was a Northern Ireland Protestant, while Roger was a
Manchester-born Catholic. So it was a mixed-marriage.
Heather later re-married after divorcing Roger. Her second husband (can't
remember his name) was played by northern actor Alan Rothwell, who had been an
original cast member in "Coronation Street" back in 1960. The character died of
a drug overdose in mysterious circumstances.
Later still, Heather was going to marry again, but backed out. Her character
definitely changed over the several years she was in the show, changing from an
attractive, charming young woman into an unpleasant, cold, "pushy"
professional. Lots of commentators said so at the time - it isn't just my
opinion. I'm sure the change by the writers was deliberate.
She left (I think) in the mid-80s. Mind you, I never watch the programme
myself........... :-)

I think you mean Heather Haversham.
Try and get it right next time!

I seem to remember that she actually was going to marry the chap - who was
incredibly wealthy and adored her - before she met the Alan Rothwell
character. She backed out a the last minute, realising she was only
marrying him for his money. Then she met her second husband, who turned out
to be addicted to heoin - he eventually died of a heroin overdose. Barry
Grant - in one of his rare saintly moments - helped her to cope with the
trauma of being married to a drug addict. She left when it all got too much
for her (or possibly when her husband died - I'm not sure).

Yes, that's true.

And because he had a daughter who he had kept secret from his family.
Heather couldn't cope with having to keep the secret.

It all got too much for her and his death was the final straw. I wish
Barry had tried harder to stop her from leaving!
IMHO this was one of the best storylines from "classic" Brookie.

Presumably only to try and stop Edna wasting all her pension.
>Heather's ex was called Tom Curzon (the one with a daughter).
called Rowena I believe
And wasn't Bing's (can't remember the actor's name, I knew I should
have archived that post) first appearance as a headmaster at a school
that Marie Jackson was trying to get the twins into?
And lo and behold hes turned up in Emmerdale this week as Kim Tates fancy mans
father ! Gets about a bit doesn't he.
