The one thing I don't like about This Cultural Life
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0010fl4
is the title. I think it prepares the listener for something that is
aloof, elitist and distant but in my opinion the programme is none of
those things: it's terrific.

Because he's not a combative interviewer and doesn't try to box his
subjects into "gotcha" style situations I'm inclined to forget just
how good John Wilson is. His deeply knowledgeable and gentle approach
to questioning brings out the very best in his guests and for me the
whole programme has a balanced and satisfying feel.

So far we have had some really top quality interviewees - Kenneth
Branagh, Paul McCartney and Tracey Emin - and next week it is the turn
of film maker Mike Leigh. All, in my opinion, people made even more
interesting by John Wilson's conversational style whether or not you
follow the particular specialisms those artists represent.

Definitely one of the highlights of my Saturday evening listening and
I recommend it.
