Behind the noise of chatty panelists, do I hear the sound of a barrel
being vigorously scraped down to its bottom? I can not believe that
someone listened to the pitch for a programme based entirely on
guessing the age of a bunch of celebs and then agreed to commission it
- for six episodes in - as it ominously declares - Series One.

I had not heard the first few broadcasts, but I have heard about three
episodes since you posted and I agree with your negative appraisal. I
believe (or have believed) that the details of panel games is not
important: what makes a programme is the contestants and chairman(*).
But I'm not sure a new batch would improve it. That I haven't heard of
the contestants or many of the people discussed probably limits my
enjoyment.

(* According to an authoritative dictionary, a chairman is a _person_
who chairs a meeting, a company, etc. There is, therefore, no need for
silly terms such as 'chair', 'chairperson',...)
