Well, they might as well just call it KISS U.K. at the weekends.

It amazes me that a ex-listener of weekend Radio One can feel so
alienated in the space of a few short years. I actually enjoy dance
music and (dare I say it) enjoy Dave Pearce's Dance Anthems show - but
don't want it ALL THE TIME. I thought that the variety of music offered
by Mark Goodiers's show was perfect for a Sunday morning (despite the
host!). How can they justify putting a house/garage show (i.e. a
specialist show which only appeals to a certain percentage of the
audience) on at this time?? How many dedicated clubbers do you know
that actually get up on a Sunday morning? - and now Sunday breakfsat
time as well? Good grief.....

The only weekend shows I'm remotely interested in now are the
aformentioned Mr. Pearce and Chris Moyles. And even then I find myself
flicking to Jonathan Ross on Radio Two (quite funny and recommended).
Ho-hum....

Which means that you're the BBC's ideal listener, they love you to bits!
:) You don't like something on Radio 1 so you tune into Radio 2. This
isn't significant now but as you get older or whatever you'll probably
do this more, so it shows they're offering a good service. Sort of, or
something like that!

There's also the point that the new shows -are- specialist, so good luck
to them. There's Radio 2, Virgin, local radio which offer an alternative
to Mark Goodier's type of show, even though they're not exactly the
same, for dance music fans on a Sunday morning, outside perhaps Central
Scotland's Beat FM (when are their daytime dance shows?), Kiss in London
and pirate stations, what can they listen to? Not much I guess.

Move the Evening Session back to it's old slot of 6:30pm thus cutting
the hours of the daytime bunch, more varied daytime playlist, the return
of the comedy/talk shows, intelligent presenters of the like of Greening
and Danny Baker. That'd be nice too, or have lots of people (here!) been
saying that for the past two years. Bugger! A more viable idea would be
perhaps to move Kershaw and The Rock Show back to Saturday
afternoon/early evening to free up two slots at 12:00am for different
shows as they're hardly ideal for those two, and The Breezeblock
finishing at 4:00am on Tuesday morning is really bad.

Not going to happen is it, but although I'm no dance nutter and will
never listen to the new shows, I think it's a step in the right
direction... at least some music fans over the country are getting a
better service from Radio 1.

Still, of most concern about the new line up is that Annie is getting an
extra half hour. What if she got like an extra four hours and did her
old request show on Sunday breakfasts? Sorry, not going to happen
either, she probably needs her sleep, but it -would- be fantastic!

He was excellent on Virgin. He plays some odd music on Radio 2 (well, he
obviously doesn't, but he gets told to) which doesn't seem to fit his
style that well. I like him, anyway.

Maybe now that Galaxy is The New Mix, and becoming much less of a Dance
station - the dance is being chopped all the time - perhaps Radio 1 are
trying to take up any of their old listeners. Galaxy is now just another
local commercial station trying to nick listeners from the local commercial
FM stations - and doing quite a good job, if you like that sort of thing.

Mark And Lard for the Saturday Rock Show! I've already joking suggested this
to them a while back and they read it out on air. Mark was obvious keen to
dust off his ELP albums. Not arf!

ELO you mean?, blimey... I wouldn't put it past them though, just listen
to lots of their Records Of The Week, and the reasons why they're
chosen.

Mary-Anne is a much better choice, but if Radio 2 ever do a 60's/70's
rock show (non cheesy, you know a proper one with LZ and co.) Radcliffe
would be the ideal choice! Although him and Lard may have to fight off
that nasty Johnnie Walker, ex host of The Radio 1 Rock Show, who's
already on Radio 2 apparently. :)

ELO great, there's definitely a West Midlands 70's rock revival going on
at the moment. Both Wizard and Slade had massive daytime airplay last
month on just about every radio station in the UK.

Oh, it was Christmas... sorry.

I didn't need to draw that joke out did I?

Oh yeah, I heard Peel read out an email last week that said Mark & Lard
played a record from The Fall recently, did anybody hear them do that? I
doubt if it was from the Marc Riley era, because Mark & Lard would never
play a record that they themselves had a hand in (perhaps for
promotional purposes) because it would be against BBC rules.

They played 'Hit The North -uh' in their Cheesily Cheerful etc. the other
day. And I did mean ELP.

Did Johnie Walker ever do it? The only hosts of the Radio One Rock
Show I remember were Tommy Vance who was replaced by Claire Sturgess
(just after she stopped being Simon Bates's secretary :) and of course
Fluff Freeman.

Saturday afternoons... it was the last job he did for Radio 1 I -think-?
Did he present Top Of The Pops 2 on BBC Two (then written by Stuart
Macconie, hurrah!) at the same time?

Answer a question with another question, it gets you out of trouble
every time.

You'll notice that when I admitted my mistake, I made no mention of who
the group ELP could be, just in case they were a really cool band that I
-really- should have known about. Anyway, mentioning anything to do with
the West Midlands is going to get me off track, even if it has nothing
to do with the aforementioned metropolitan region in reality.

So am I off the hook?

I remember him doing TOTP2 with the writing being done by SM. I just
didn't remember anyone doing the Saturday show after Fluff, but I
never really listened as I wasn't a rock fan.

Eeeh them were the days when you'd get soul, Andy Kershaw and rock on
a Saturday night. Now you're lucky to get a single indie record at
weekends.

Don't think so. Johh Cavanagh presented the show from Glasgow for a
while after Sturgess did it, until it was replaced when John Peel's show
was moved frrom 10pm Friday to 8pm Sunday

But it wasn't The Rock show. It was his own show followed by 'In
Concert'

Jo Whiley took over from him.

Okay fair 'nuff... it still sounds right though, but it's obviously not.
Sorry.

Jo's show was okay on weekends, after Danny Baker, it's a shame she
didn't stop there longer.

Oh yes. A token 'from the regions' presenter about the same time of
The Guest List (oh that takes me back) IIRC. Which also came from the

And remember how everybody wrote in to 'The Gas Lift' or something
similar because they couldn't understand Radcliffe's accent?
