Follow-up to 'Destination Calabria', which makes every possible effort to
avoid sounding different, to the extent that the big crowd noise bit in the
middle seems to have been pasted straight in from the earlier record.
Meanwhile, the brass sample this time comes from Pigbag's 'Papa's Got A
Brand New Pigbag', although if he's expecting present-day clubbers to
recognise it he probably has the Perfecto Allstars version in mind.

Presumably more tracks will crop up further down the chart. In fact, I've
got a Top 100 here and I can see two more: 'Long Road To Ruin' at 96 and 'My
Hero' at 88, although these were both in the Top 100 last week.
Interestingly, neither of these were especially big hits first time around.
Also revived by live shows, 'Livin On A Prayer' climbs 12-78.
New entries are Sonny J at 77, N Force vs Darren Styles at 87, Foals at 89
and MGMT at 92.

Although of course selling any number in three days (or in a week) is a less
meaningful concept in this online age.
It appears that this album is a reaction to the flaws of X&Y - it's
certainly a lot shorter.

Difficult second album. As I said, it seemed when Costello Music was Number
2 for several weeks that they were pretty much guaranteed a Number One
second time around. Of course, only one act could have topped the chart in
this particular week, but they've ended up missing out on the runner-up slot
too.
Perhaps the blame lies with 'Mistress Mabel', which despite a slight rebound
this week remains their lowest-charting eligible physical single to date.

Third album from the Neptunes and their friend, following a reformation that
may or may not relate to the failure of Pharrell's solo album.

Well on its way to becoming the year's fastest seller in the US. The

hindered by Internet leaks.
Guest stars include Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Betty Wright, T-Pain (of course!)

Repromoted after a previous soft launch, Backwoods Barbie is said to be one
of Dolly's best in a long time. There are two unexpected covers here: Smokey
Robinson's 'Tracks Of My Tears' and The Fine Young Cannibals' '[She] Drives
Me Crazy'.

The 30th Anniversary Collection assembles 52 tracks (including a few by
Coverdale Page) over 3 CDs, but you have to wonder how many people there are
who want this much Whitesnake and haven't already bought it.

Her 24th solo album, but her first in five years. Produced by her ex-husband
Brian Ahern.
It's her first solo album to reach the Top 40 since the imaginatively-titled
1980 compilation Her Best Songs. Her last studio album to manage this was in
1978, although she reached the Top 10 in collaboration with Mark Knopfler
two years ago.

are any left) are the awful-but-hyped Cage The Elephant and the
well-connected but obscure Rascals.

Nope. And that may not be wholly accidental.
On the one hand, this being their first full week of sales might help this
hold up better than average; that said the Father's Day factor will push
overall sales down.

posterity seems to have given me more chances to hear 'Lucille'.

Precisely - so if you can change the Band Aid line-up, then why not have
someone else dueting with Katie for a live performance of her #1...

Right, and that's exactly where the analogy with the Pogues comes in.
Actually it's even stronger in this case because Cassidy and Melua never
met, whereas the Pogues could conceivably have found an archive performance.
Now I come to think of it, the Pogues must have performed the song when they
were on tour without Shane MacGowan. But I don't know whether any of those
were recorded.
