hm..Slimon is perhaps unstable enough, but unfortunately not
rural enough. I don't think he would choose the Am, the slurry
tank, or the combine as his way out. Shotgun accident, just possibly.
"Oh God, Shula, you mean you have told everyone? Even Caroline
(with whom I have fallen hopelessly in love) ? that's it; I
can't go on, I tell, you, I can't go on.
"Goodness, is that snow outside?"
[studiously removes fur-lined jacket and scarf]
"Shula, I am going out of the office now; I may be some time..."
Nah, not really.
I think one of the Grundys would be candidates. Joe, or Clarrie.
Clarrie would get the SWs a lot of mileage. Wots to become of
Willyerm and Edwerd, Oi'd loike tuh know. How on earth will
Sid manage in the Bull? Will Joe be able to get his own tea on?

Yes, can't think of her name just now, but no one suspected that she was
suicidal - she wasn't in the part that long (as Archers cast go). I reckon
it would be Joe (as a get out for writing him out due to his 'real' old age
or sudden death?)

I know this is a bit grim, and not in keeping with the light tone of most
of the contributions, but didn't the actress who played the original
Clarrie kill herself after being axed for trying to wrest commercial
control of the Grundys' extra-mural appearances from the Beeb ?

The current Clarrie is the third, to my knowledge. One, the first I
think, left after being refused time off to attend the funeral of the
Joe of the time, so we had a new Clarrie and a new Joe at about the
same time. The second suffered from post-natal depression and
committed suicide. (I may have got the order wrong.)

Yes, I think you did. I'm sure it was Clarrie, not Joe, who had post-
natal depression.

I fear the SWs may have forgotten that (I don't think I even knew; if I
did, I'd forgotten). Certainly, she seems a likely candidate at times.
[N. b.: I'm writing not having heard any this week - maybe the omnibus
will change my mind.]
(Later, after hearing the omnibus:) Seems less likely now, though
certainly not out of the question.

Heather Bell was the first: she left after being refused permission to
attend Ted Moult's funeral. It was Fiona Mathieson who committed suicide.
And, of course, Moult killed himself as well.

Toodles has threatened to pillory me either at Tower Bridge or Inkpen
Gibbet: Ted Moult should read Haydn Jones who played Joe Grundy.

Don't worry Chris. It's an easy mistake to make..

I thought it was a previous Joe Grundy's funeral she couldn't go to
Kate
Certainly Joe and Clarrie changed voices at around the same time - when
both were "missing" I wondered about a plotline of some disaster at
Grange Farm killing both of them off leaving the storyline of Eddie
having to cope as a single father.
