No, but it's only fair to let people know that it can be bought for less
from most other outlets.

If you go into a shop and see something you want, and it costs £2 more than
the shop next door do you?A)buy it B)go to the cheaper shop or C)buy it from
the cheaper shop then stand outside telling everyone not to shop in the more
expensive one.
Now as I see it like this.If you dont want to buy it,fine,no one is forcing
you.If you are prepared to pay that amount then fine, what you do with your
money is your business. Some people ,for whatever reason, cannot or will not
shop over the net.So what should they do?either go without or pay a premium
price for the product.Personally I use the net for a lot of
DVDs,occasionally if im in the West End I will pop into this shop and have a
look,sometimes I will buy a DVD.OK, I know I can get it cheaper,but
sometimes theres nothing like going in a shop and buying something on
impulse. No waiting for the postman...if he turns up...just go home unwrap
DVD and away you go.So sometimes the extra couple of quid can be borne just
for the convenience factor.

True, but we're not talking bricks and mortar here, we're talking
newsgroups.

Fine, I too am guilty of the occasional impulse purchase (although I've
never bought anything from DVD Emporium) and hence paying over the odds.
However, there's a difference between seeing something in a shop and
thinking "ooh, I'll get that, I know I can get it cheaper from Play, but I
want it NOW" to seeing an advert on a newsgroup and thinking "ooh, I'll get
that, I know I can get it cheaper from Play, and the delivery time will be
the same, but I'll pay more anyway".

Impulse purchases over the internet pretty much don't happen.

There is no convenience factor involved here, we're talking mail order.

Hmm... I disagree a little here.... I've bought a lot on impulse ESPECIALLY
over the net! It's just so convenient!!!!

HOWEVER, I also appreciate someone telling me that I can get something
cheaper elsewhere. I also appreciate people telling me that someone may be
trying to rip me off.

:)

I didn't explain myself very well - what I meant was, in a shop, if you see
something you fancy, you'll probably just buy it on impulse - you won't
traipse round a load more shops looking for the same thing cheaper, even if
you suspect it may be a little bit more than other places. You just don't
do that on the net, _because_ it's so convenient and easy to just open
another window and run a quick search to find it lower elsewhere....

Well, we're a friendly lot on the newsgroups ;)

Why not? That just smacks of laziness. If I went to the Trafford Centre
and saw an item in one shop which I thought might be cheaper elsewhere
I'd look round those other shops before deciding.

The fact that I would suspect something is cheaper elsewhere would bug me
if I didn't trust my instinct to check it out.

As far as I am aware DVD Emporium do not offer a mail order service,or at
least they didnt when I last asked. So it is a BRICKS AND MORTAR
establishment. You dont slag off Woolworths for selling a DVD for £2-3 more
than Play. Why not?You dont slag off Virgin in Times Square for selling DVDs
for $25-30 a piece. Why not?We all know that when it comes to DVDs ,the net
is the cheapest way to buy in the vast majority of cases. Now why that is im
not 100 % sure! Less overheads, larger customer base?so less profit per title
compensated for by much larger quantities?

Absolutely - I thought the idea of NGs was to spread information and
help people out, not to leave them to learn the hard way' ... we can
all do that!

Well, reviewing DVDs on a PS2 and claiming the quality is as good as a
standalone player smacks of stupidness. I'm talking about impulse buying
here - if you walk around all afternoon trying to save a quid or two, it's
no longer buying on impulse, is it.

At the end of the day........................... it's night !
No really
ATEOTD The newsgroup is here for that reason as well as many more, to inform
it's users of the good discs and the good prices and to avoid the
overpriced products whether it be your highstreet chain or the independent
suppliers.
There are price search comparisons on the net but fortunately the users of
our newsgroup kindly and humorously inform us to pay heed.
Thanks to those and keep it up.

BTW
Watched Tomb Raider Last night and have to say it is probably in the Top Ten
Recent Films of a shite nature.
Absolutely Arse !

The trouble with that is that you torture yourself for hours afterwards
thinking
that if only you loked at x,y,and z too you might have got it  cheaper, i
do
this sort of thing all the time with anything Hi-Fi gear, cars, TV's,
trousers, cakes
shampoo you name it (ok shampoo/cakes maybe not but you get my drift) i have
been in the Trafford center and done that on many occasions and you usually
end
back in the first place in the end !!
drives the girlfriend mental.... come to think of it me too !!
