I have a DSP A2 and a REL Q50 which I want to connect together.
1) The amp allows two subwoofer connection options, SW or BOTH. The
manual seems to say that if SW is set then the bass from the main left
and right speakers is not sent to a sub but if BOTH is set then the bass
is sent to the main speakers and the sub. Am I reading this
incorrectly? Surely there is a way to configure this amp so all bass is
just sent to the sub? What settings are other people using with this
amp? Any recommendations? (My Front and rear speakers are Kef Q55.2's
and my main is a Kef Q95c.2)
2) The amp does not allow a test signal to be sent to the sub, so how
are people correctly setting the levels so the sub is balanced with the
rest of the system?
3) Does everyone use the max dynamic range for Dolby Digital?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I'll certainly have a go.

I'm afraid you are (reading this incorrectly). If LFE is set to 'BOTH',
then the bass is sent to both subwoofer and main L+R speakers. This is the
prefered option if your main speakers are up to the job. If LFE is set to
'SW', then bass is only sent to the subwoofer. This is filtered by the amp
and nothing below (I think) 80 Hz makes it to your main speakers.

The advice is always do what sounds best for you. Try both 'BOTH' and 'SW'
settings and see what happens.

Are you sure? There is certainly no test signal if LFE is set to 'NONE',
but I thought there was if it is set to 'SW' or 'BOTH'. I don't know as
I don't have a sub and my setting is 'NONE'. If there really is no signal
even when the amp knows you have a sub, then this is a serious design
omission in an otherwise super amp, IMO.
However, if you're right, then your best bet is to try and get hold of a
DVD with some test signals on it. There a fair few of these nowadays.
I believe Fight Club has some, though I don't know if these include a
dedicated LFE test. My Platinum DVD certainly does and I found it very
useful for highlighting the LF limits of my main speakers (and telling me I
need a sub!!).

Much to my family's and neighbour's chagrin, yes I do, though if it's
particularly late, I do change it to "STD". IIRC, the manual does recommend
'MAX' only for a dedicated, sound-proofed, HC environment.
Baz.
noise test tone for the sub as it is too high a frequency for the sub.

I would also recommend doing this.

Me too. It rocks !!
Please respond to the group to let us know how you get on.
Regards.

If you can get it cheap, why pay full price ?
If you can get it free, why pay at all ??

Set all speakers to small. All bass to use SW. All frequencies below 90hz
will now be sent to the sub. I prefer this setting rather than all other
configurations I've tried.

It does on the A1. Option 2 I think is the sub balancing option. It depends
on how you've set the speaker sizes and bass output as to where the low
frequencies are sent on this option. Could be different though for A2.

Yes.
PS. It actually took me 6 months to set things up to how I prefer them.

Ha! had the same problem over here :)
Its just a matter of trial and error, you can switch the front, centre
and rear from large to sml.
My setting is (with Kef reference model 2 as main speakers, the
reference model 100 centre and the Q 75 as rear with the Rell storm III
as sub) Main as large, the centre small and the rear small. choose for
the sub "both", now the lfe goes through the main and the sub, the small
settings have no lfe.
For me it works , just play with the settings.
> 3) Does everyone use the max dynamic range for Dolby Digital?
Yesss, very important. Also I like the "enhanced" modus, this is just a
little more sophisticated.
