Hello,

I have:
- Denon DVD1500 dvd player
- Denon AVR1802 5.1 receiver
- KEF sattelite KHT-2005 5.1 speakersystem

OPTION 1.
The way I have connected my subwoofer to my receiver at this moment:
Speakercable of frontspeakers from receiver to sub-woofer and from
sub-woofer to frontspeakers.
Set the AVR1802 setup to Subwoofer=NO and frontspeakers=LARGE
(others=SMALL).
According to my reseller this is the best solution for all the sound
posibilities (MATRIX, 5CH STEREO, Dolby PLII, etc.).

OPTION 2.
The other way to connect my subwoofer:
Speakercable of frontspeakers from receiver directly to frontspeakers.
Use the subwoofer out of the receiver to connect the sub-woofer.
Set the AVR1802 setup to Subwoofer=YES and all 5 speakers to SMALL.

I tried option 2 but the bass sound from the subwoofer was very low with the
subwoofer volume to MAX.
I currently have setup option 1. This sounds OK, but I wonder if I can here
the '.1' sub-woofer audio track?

Maybe a stupid question:
How many audio tracks are on a DVD with Dolby Digital 5.1?
With other words: Is there a seperate track for the '.1' the sub-woofer?
With option 1 my sub-woofer filters the <80Hz. Everything above 80Hz goes to
the frontspeakers. If there is a seperate audio track for the subwoofer, I
don't hear rthis track.

Who can advice me with this??

Regards,
ERASER.

I think you need to set the front speakers to LARGE before the sub
will work from the preout. This is how I have my 1802 set up and the
bass is fearsomely loud if necessary.

The classic way to connect is option 2, the sub pre-out plugs directly into
the KEF subwoofer. You shouldn't have to drive it from the speaker outputs
at all. The KEF has it's own amplifier in it to make that line level output
(not speaker level output) rock your living room. Does the Denon allow you
to adjust the relative levels being sent to each speaker component? I've
got a cheap kenwood amp and even on this you can adjust the 'weighting'
given to each speaker including the subwoofer. If you can't drive the sub
harder, lower everything else - it has the same effect.

5.1 sound is 5 separate full bandwidth audio channels and one separate LFE
(Low Frequency Effects) channel. It's the LFE that goes to your sub. The
Denon should sort out what else is sent there depending on what size
speakers you've told it you've got connected elsewhere.

Have a careful look at the setup sections in the manual to see how to adjust
the relative levels - it's bound to be in there somewhere. Otherwise, maybe
your sub is duff?

I have Marantz SR5200 and the KEF system. I have your option 2, ie
Everything straight to amp and sub via cable in pre out.
Have all sspeakers set to small and Sub Yes, have no problem with LFE,
have you altered the dial controls.

The opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan, the beach landing - rocks the
house with basss, very good setup the Marantz and Kef's IMHO.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Hmmm...I have the Denon AVR-1802 and the KEFs. I have it connected as
per Option 2 and all works fine. I'd try the Receiver's Test Tone and
see if sound is produced from the sub-woofer.

BTW, there is a separate audio track for the sub in DD 5.1, but it is
more 'felt' than heard.

Hi Paul (and others),

Everybody says to directly connect my sub-woofer to my receiver.....SO I
DID!!
The sound is OK! I think I made some incorrect settings last time I tried.

Do you have the same problem as I (and several others) have with the Denon
AVR1802 while playing Pearl Harbor or Jurassic Park III in Dolby Digital 5.1
mode (in the netherlands Pearl Harbor haven't got a DTS track)? There is no
sound.
Which DVD player do you have?

Despite having an Onkyo DS595 receiver (Onkyo being the only manufacturer who has published information on this DD5.1
problem AFAIK), I do NOT have a problem with either Pearl Harbor (R2) or JPIII (R2 - which I rented).
I have a Philips DVD connected via co-ax

Hi,

The Denon AVR-1802 remote has a button marked T.TONE If activated, it
sends sound (technically pink noise I think) to each of the speakers
in turn, including the sub). It's designed to help you set up the
speakers so that they all generate the same volume to give a balanced
sound, but it's also useful for making sure everything works properly.

BTW, haven't got either Pearl Harbour or Jurassic Park 3, so can't
comment personally on any problems with these disks. However, over at
the Dolby site, there's a known problem documented:

http://dolby.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/dolby.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=bzo_Zw6g&p_lva=&p_faqid=129&p_created=1008952532&p_sp=cF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTYxJnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=

Although Dolby don't specifically mention which kit or disks are
affected, according to other sources on-line, it is Pearl Harbour and
JP3 soundtracks that are problematic on certain Denon and Onkyo
receivers.

Regards,

Paul
