Anyway, I paid Ł4 quid for it, if anyone wants it to experience for
themselves, mail me your address and I'll send it on. First come 1st
served.
Do I stand alone on this one, are there people here who enjoy reading this
mag ?

Porn mags have been obsoleted by the internet. Why anybody would pay £4
quid for a few glossy photos while Ampland is in existence confuses the hell
out of me.
To be honest I've not bought HCC for a while now though either...
I guess entry level home-cinema is more affordable than it ever has been,
and the mags are now pitching themselves at the hundreds of thousands taking
up an interest, as opposed to catering for enthusiasts who already have a
good working knowledge of HC and the various formats? I just felt essential
Home Cinema (with its intentionally similar banner to HCC) had been dumbed
down a little too much for me.

I'm probably telling the converted, but I picked up What Hi Fi for the
first time last month, (because of the Denon 3802 review) and it was
the best read I'd had in years. So much better than HCC and HE
etc, that it's now the one mag I know I'll get a damn good read and
good info from.
It's like the difference between the Sun and a proper newspaper - the
Sun only takes 5 mins to read/look at, whilst something like the Mail
takes all morning.
What HiFi has more home Cinema related info in it than I expected, and
probably has more experienced people too. What do the regular readers
of this mag think about it?
Gary.

As a hi-fi rag, it's absolute cack compared to Hi-Fi Choice or the
classic Hi-Fi News, but the HC stuff is on a par with HCC.

How anyone can say the Sun and the Mail are similar amazes me. The
difference is like night and day. I used to read the Sun, but my gf's
Dad gets the Mail, and I found it a much more interesting paper. It
takes ages to read it, wheras the Sun only takes a few minutes, and
that includes eating the Pizza. (Or is that sex???) :O)
my main gripe is the fact the cost obviously comes in the equation for the
ratings quite significantly.
i got my first DVD player last year, the Alba DVD 103 that What Hi-Fi gave
(i think) 5 stars. ok, so it wasn't bad for the money back then but it is
still kind of crap. if they did an overall rating and then a modified rating
taking into account the price that might be more appropriate and might have
tempted me to get a more expensive but much better player. however it has
taught me the lesson to get proper demos before buying.
obviously an overall rating could be kind of difficult since technology is
getting slowly better, thus raising the standards year by year but i think
they could at least make an attempt. rather annoyingly as a result of
raising standards What Hi-Fi have also started changing their ratings... two
examples i have noticed were the Hitachi w32cf727n television and Mission
M73 speakers, both which have gone from a 5-star to a 4-star rating within
the year (i got the tv based partly on their good review and a shortish demo
and was going to get the speakers - probably still will though if they sound
good). also they didn't seem to pick up on the one really annoying feature
of the tv which i also didn't see during the demo due to not testing enough
different DVDs.
so yeah, it's ok but don't take it too much as an ultimate bible, go and get
good quality demos - thats what really counts!

No, it's just that Mail readers move their lips and take a long time
to get through any tabloid.................
Real people read the Grauniad, Indy or Express, depending on their
politics. Or the Times, of course! :-)
> the mail is the Sun for people too embarassed to buy the latter
Yeah, but I only buy the Sun as I'm too embarrassed to get the Sport.
I think it's funny that The Sun is perceived as gutter press. It's surely
a notch above the Star, Mirror, and the Sport?
Andy
the Sport is brilliant - at least its got plenty of tits in it - rather than
tits writing it like the Sun/Mirror/Star etc
I think it's unfair to cast the Sport as gutter press - its nowhere near
that good
Patrick :o)
The Mail contains lots of self righteous opinionated drivel.
The Sun contains slightly less self righteous opinionated drivel and
lots of mindless celebrity gossip.
Have you ever tried reading a real newspaper?

Funny you say that.
I was once in a Barber's shop (not the quartet, but the
building) and the only thing they had to read to pass the
time was The Mail. I went through every single page and
could not find one single interesting thing to read. Just
my luck! I had to spend half an hour talking to the goddam
bald cretin about his feckin Max Powered B reg Astra.

You should have got the HCC mag together with the addition. If you only
got the latter then take it back for a refund or the mag itself as the
shop has cocked up.

Only a tabloid would consider a woman buying clothes newsworthy.
Stories coming soon:
Man visits public house!
Married couple have sex!
Drunk person buys kebab!

I bought a copy earlier this month and was interested to see that they had
photographs of the editorial team inside. They all looked like schoolboys.

I have had the Mail delivered for 10 years and two weeks ago I
canceled it in disgust at the continued outrageous (IMO)
sensationalism and self-serving opinions.
3 things stick in my mind:
1) The "white feather" and "cowards" stories concerning the sportsmen
who did not want to go overseas to represent their club (football) or
country (cricket) in the wake of 11 September.
2) Taking that theme one further and having a pop at Bruce Willis for
not wanting to come over here.
3) War may be brutal but I don't want the horror of it in horrific and
frightening pictures on my breakfast table that my kids can see. The
Northern Alliance's treatment and killing, no MURDERING, of an unarmed
Taliban soldier was shocking. Sure, report and read about it, but
pictures of the poor mans fear in his eyes was beyond what I deem
acceptable in a daily national paper.
Sorry The Mail, but you've lost a long standing reader.
