Ok, so I read the reviews and the Sony DVP735 seemed to be about the best
DVD player for £400ish. I bought one, now I need what ? an amp ? separate
speakers ? which TV ? It's a jungle out there and I don't know where to
begin! I want a full home cinema system and the DVD is the first piece, I
think I want a 36inch TV, can they get the free digital channels ? The more
magazines I read the more confused I become - Any recommendations ?

Regards, Michael.

Michael, I bought a 735 a couple of months back. Makes you want a new TV doesnt it. Well, I came into some wad so I got the Sony 36FS70 TV. Its great. I al ready had the surround sound setup.

Choices to make. Do you want the TV to do all the surround stuff? Or buy seperates? To start with it is probably easier to get a Dolby Digital TV which you can connect the DVD to. Hitachi and Toshiba make good Dolby Digital TVs some even allow you to take DTS from your Sony and output it for superior sound.

If you do this it gets you started. Then over time you can add bigger, better and more speakers to the setup to improve sound. Then you take a leap and put in a surround amp and take the sound off the TV. This will be a great improvement.

Finally add in a sub woofer and your neighbours will be able to feel Arnie blowing things up!

Can you post in plain text please Roger and leave a reference to the post
you are replying to. Thanks....

Personally, i would not buy a DD5.1 television. I have one and it is
better than DPL (when listening to DD5.1 sources) but i ended up buying
separates as the sound was significantly better than the DD5.1 in the tv.

So, if you want to spend extra, buy the DD5.1 in the tv and then go for
separates but if you want to be sensible, go for separates.
