Guys and Girls,

I would really appreciate some help from you all, on which DVD Writer is the
best bet for authoring DVD movies, copying films etc.

I would like a pair of drives (DVD-ROM and DVD Writer) from the same
manufacturer, and I have heard that Sony's DVD-ROM drive, the DDU1621, is
not that 'shit hot' ! However, I have heard that the DRU-500A is a good
writer.

The alternative is to pick up a Panasonic LF-D521 DVD Multi-Drive and pair
it with a SR-8588 16x DVD-ROM drive.

What are people's opinions on these setups? All input warmly appreciated!!

Regards

Alan

As a matter of interest why do they have to be from the same
manufacturer? I can tell you for a fact that my Samsung CD-RW/DVD reader
works perfectly well with my Sony DRX-500UL DVD writer.

Sony's main advantage is being able to write all of the differing
formats (apart from DVD RAM), which at the moment no one else can match.

I hunted around, thought about it, thought a bit more, and went with a
Panny LF-D311 (DVDRam/DVD-R) and an NEC-D1000A (DVD+R/RW). The pair of
drives cost me about £250 all-in and I get everything except -RW and
having the two drives allows duping either/or
