Before someone complains, I cannot find a exactly suitable group for this
post......and as this group has a lot of techno buffs I would appreciate
some advice here.
I am hoping to get a digital camcorder with progressive scan and in/out
firewire. The problem is now choosing between the excellent latest releases!
Canon's XM1 - looks good, great lens
Canon's XL1 - interchangable lenses + recent price drop
Sony PC100 - Megapixel + analgue in
Anyone any experience of comments here??
Thanks
Depends what you want. The XL1 is great, handles well, but big, no
built-in LCD display (playback thru eyepiece only). XM1 less
"professional", but handier, and wipes the floor with most "consumer"
camcorders. PC100 very small, probably lower quality than the other two
(don't think it's 3CCD, though don't know much about it).
I have a Sony TRV900. 3CCD, versatile, palmcorder format so convenient
to carry around. Not quite as "solid" a feel as the XL1, but if a
camcorder is too big and conspicuous to use in many situations (like the
XL1), you won't be encouraged to use it as much as maybe you want.
Work out what you want to do primarily. Each of the three you've
mentioned suit rather different applications.
