I have the Marrantz RC2000mk2 at the moment but I quite like the look of the
Pronto.
There is the Marrantz version but there also appears to be two Philips
versions, although this has been denied by a retailer. One of the Philips
is advertised as blue backlit and is silver plastic, the other is grey
plastic and has a different backlit colour.
Can anyone with the silver, blue backlit version confirm the existence?
Also, how does the pronto touch screen fare after you have owned it for a
while? i.e. Does it scratch easily or is it quite sturdy?
TIA
David
Get the Marantz version as its cheaper & just as good & you also get the
docking base too.

A huge step up - speaking as one who made the same leap

Silver is European model IFRC, the grey is the original US model - firmware
is all but identical. Be aware that a new 2Mb model is shipping as we speak
but contains a major firmware bug as noted at www.remotecentral.com by a
number of users.
The RC5000 is both prettier (IMHO) and has been updated more regularly
interms of firmware than Pronto to date.

Take Nigels advice in this thread
Patrick
I think I will take the plunge and follows Nigel's advice too.
Now all I have to do is find the best place to get one from. The Marrantz
one is quite a bit more expensive than the Philips one.

Hey, the Marantz is available from hotkit for £200.00 and it does include
the docking station & rechargable battery.
Try to get a Pronto & docker for £200.00
Nige
I think that's probably sealed it for me Nige. Time to spend some money.

That'll be because it includes the docking station which is optional
with the Philips model I think.
Also, I believe the Philips Pronto has a Timer facility which is
missing from the Marantz. Well, I *know* the Pronto does, but not sure
on the Marantz. Useful for changing digi-box channels at set times for
instance.
I bought the Pronto sans charger. Still on my first set of batteries 3
months on.

I see that the marrantz is also has 2MB of memory whereas the pronto does
not. The new pronto out next month will but I understand this will also
have a price hike.
