I am looking to buy a server to go on my home cinema set up.

It doesn't need to be particularly fast but needs
-to be extremely quiet,
-hopefully fit in with home cinema style
-connect wirelessly with my laptop.

Does anyone know who are the best people to contact about buying this set
up?
Thanks,
Harry

if its quiet you're after then maybe the specialist PC's for music studios
may be best. I think Carillon is the name of one and Digital Village build
to order too. Failing that you could try Novatech who seem to have lots of
options available.

you'll have to forgive my ignorance, but what it the purpose of the
server? Have you considered an Apple?
They're certainly quiet (the iMac has no cooling fan), stylish, and
built for wireless connectivity. Those who need to seem to have no
difficulties networking them with Windows systems, even over a wireless
network.

Mesh had a good review in this month's PCPro mag. They commented on how
quiet it was. Might be a more cost-effective way to go compared to a custom
job.

Funnily enough, I'm on the lookout to build another (fast) PC but was
wondering if it would be nice to be able to have it fairly portable so
every now and again I could move it into the TV room to watch all those
(ahem) divx movies friends keep lending me.

So I did a little surfing earlier on for details of these shuttle
barbone boxes (is it spacewalker ??)
They are about the size of a shoebox, silver in colour (although you can
get coloured fronts), would probably sit on a shelf next to your dvd
player etc ok, and they have this heatpipe technology that helps the
thing run cool without huge fans!
Has one agp port and one PCI as well as stuff like USB2 and firewire, so
adding a wireless network card shouldn't be a prob.

www.overclockers.co.uk (amongst others) sell them
Their prices are good though and I think they do build up complete
systems (although I've only bought components from them in the past -
but they only sell good stuff)

Might be worth a look as well.

I have a shuttle and it's not particularly quiet. IMO too noisy for hc
integration.

however I came across this the other day: http://www.hushtechnologies.co.uk
it certainly looks nice and appears not to have any fans. Its downsides
appear to be that it uses the low spec Via processors, and also that it's
not out yet!
