Requirements are:
1. Full NTSC compatibility (US DVD player)
2. S-video input
3. Screen size 28" - 32"
4. Prologic NOT required
My initial thoughts have been the Sony KV28WF1 and KV32F1 .
If anyone has any thoughts on these models or any others which may suit my
needs I would be most grateful.

After much reading and talking, I've settled on the Philips 32W9523
(the green one) for a couple of reasons - it doesn't come with
pro-logic, it's got a decent picture, and it's green :) My partner
objected big-time to an enormous black box in the living room, and
since the room is green anyway...
The new Sony 32" flatscreen was also a contender and the preferred
option, except it was just too pricey in comparison to the other stuff
on the market.
Thought about the Panasonic 32", but found it's picture was less to my
taste than the Philips. I wanted a TV without pro-logic as I'm also
buying all the kit to do PL and AC3 externally, so didn't want to pay
money for something I'd never use. Why is it so damn difficult to
find good sets without pro-logic - surely the makers realise that a
market exists for good monitors?!
If the Sony is the one that pleases you the most, go for it. I'd go
for the 32" screen as well - a 4:3 picture on a 28" really is quite
small.
Take care,

Some, but not many. In any case, the cost of adding a Pro-Logic decoder to a
set is very small, especially in the case of those speakerless things folk
like JVC have adopted. It is annoying to have to pay extra for that stuff
when you've already got a full-on external sound setup though.
FWIW ESG, the Sony KV-32WX2 could be worth a look - it possesses a sharper
picture than the WF1 and adds a number of advanced picture and teletext
features - including digital high speed scan and line interpolation. I've
heard some negative comments about some digital TV's (and noticed problems
on some sets I auditioned) but I find the WX2 excellent on every front.

Now here's one for those dumb spambots: tony....@labour.org.uk
I would strongly suggest you check the Philips 32PW9503 (or the equivalent
UK model) instead of the Sony ones you've mencioned. IMHO its a much better
bet for a number of reasons namely, 3 scarts plus S-VHS inputs, 100Hz,screen
linked fixed audio outputs, handles NTSC perfectly, various screen modes
available, all digital options can be disabled at will and NOT as a per
channel basis, and finally is CHEAPER than any Sony equivalent model !!!
Also, if possible go for the 32" model. In future, no matter what you might
think now, you'll find the 28" one just too small. Beleive you me... I've
been there !!!
As you migth have already guessed, I do own this TV set and I use it with a
Toshiba SD 2107 I've imported from the States and the picture even more so
with anamorphic 16:9 dvds is absolutely AMAZING !!!! Miles and miles ahead
than laserdisc which I also own.
BTW if you do find someone to demonstrate this set for you, first be sure
they have a perfect off air signal, second grab hold of the remote, open the
flap on top and press DNR so it's off. Then press the red button ( video
menu) press sharpness and change to minimum or just to the first position.
Find the digital scan option and turn it off. Check colour, contrast and
brightness (about half way is fine). On the dynamic contrast option, either
switch off or use minimum. Finally on the tint option use cool.
To finnish the job, press the yellow button and store the settings you've
just chosen so they become your personal ones. That's it.
Hope this helps and keep in touch.
Bye for now,
Pedro
