Got anything better than shortly?
While trying to persuade John Lewis to price match Empire Direct on a
Sony tv (which they did of course) I'm sure I spotted a small plaque
among the tv's stating that they would refund the difference.
'Never knowingly undersold' -and all that?
BTW John Lewis ending all price matches on tv's sometime in October.

Unfounded rumour? Then why did they price match my Dyson against
www.pluggedin.co.uk?
Or did I just imagine the cheque for around £60

Probably a real cheque, but I think you imagined someone said JL price
matching against internet traders is an unfounded rumour. Reread the top
bit :)

I agree.
I cant see the point of those folks who have big double page spreads of price lists with no prices! Just 'call'.
I never do anymore, as I never seemed to get a competitive quote of many of these guys. Mainly you get an earful telling
you why you shouldnt use anyone else because they cant be trusted, they sell grey imports, provide no service, etc.,
when they are just the same.
Sorry for being so sceptical!
What I find even more unfathomable, is the e-commerce sites, who also advertise in the magazines and still say 'call'.
I guess some of it is to do with the fact that the ad will have been placed well in advance and prices will have
fluctuated.
But why waste all that space listing model numbers?

It will be interesting to see if they change their moto then.
They proudly proclaim they have 'never knowingly undersold for 75 years'
Whereas they would be knowingly undersold now.
I know it is in the small print - but they are going to have to update everything to say 'expect e-commerce' as far as I
am concerned.
If not, doesnt it contravine some advertising standards?
Most stores have some ''within n miles' type qualification on their price matching, which effectively excludes
e-commerce as it is not local.
What is JLPs policy? Do they have some qualification too?

Tomorrow? Oh dear.
BUT
they will start trading in electrical goods on-line as well and will
supposedly continue to price match via their web-site!
that's what i heard anyway!

The last time I did a price match a shop in Soho, Birmingham (!) had the
cheapest price anywhere. No stand so JL added £80 for that but otherwise a
good (£300+) saving. The chap from JL rang up the shop, pretending to be a
customer, to confirm the price.

Actually, they did price match the Empire Direct price.I went into the store
with a print out and 5 mins later had a £52 refund onto my Mastercard! Nice
one : )

Ah yes, I sit corrected :-)
Night duty plays horrible tricks on the brain!
They do, see my mis-aimed reply above, but they certainly price-match
against e-tailers.

JL will price match any online store up until the 21st october!!!!

I went to JL in Milton Keynes yesterday where they price matched the
Sony 32FQ75 for me down to Ł1209.99 against an internet supplier and I
still get the 5 year warranty :-))))))))))). The chap went away gave
them a call and said that all was fine. As he filled in the undersold
form I could hardly stop myself grinning as the difference figure of
Ł380.01 was filled in !
While he was on the phone I quizzed a female member of staff at the till
about their policy and was told that internet price matches end on 20th
October (ok everyone knows that). After some further quizzing she
admitted that if the internet company and a shop where the goods could
be collected then the 'Never Knowingly Undersold' would still apply and
the price would be matched.
I've always thought the 'Never Knowingly Undersold' to be a bit of a
joke, not any more though. I did however find it strange that their
retail price for the 32FQ75 is Ł1590 and the Sony Centre in the same
shopping centre was Ł1549.

Andy.
