Richard, enlighten me as to who has this available at this price. They are as
rare as the proverbial "Rocking Horse sh**" so ,although they may well get you
one for that price, you might have to wait a while!

Well, I have seen it advertised on the net for $5895 in the US.
£4850 is SEK 67415
$5895 is SEK 51065 or roughly 75% of the UK price.
Does anyone know why there is such a big difference between US
and European prices? In Europe the sales tax is ususually higher
but that could perhaps account for 5 to 10 percent. Where does the
rest end up? In the retailers pockets?

Here's another £700 down then.
The cheapest price I've found within Europe is £4119 inc (German) VAT
and P&P (UPS) to UK, in stock and 10 days delivery time.
You should'nt pay more as long as you buy within EU !!
Use the UK EU-membership and pay sales tax in the country of origin.
If you buy from US or Far-east... UK taxes added...
The price above comes from Hifi Components Bernard Vehns:
http://www.hificomponents.de/Versand_eng/preisliste.htm
They have an 'ok' reputation when it comes to doing e-business.
The drawback is that they only ship outside Germany on pre-paid
orders and personally I doesn't like that (pre-paying).
Personally I prefer doing business with another German company:
http://www.technikdirekt.de/english/
They take major credit cards (online or fax order), withdrawn at
shipping day, and have a fixed fee for P&P within Europe (30.- DEM /
£9.50). They usually price-match other German companies as well (It
happened me once that they did'nt, but then the total was lower
anyway due to their fixed P&P). Can't find the VW10HT on their
homepage but they are a Sony reseller so if you're intrested send them
an e-mail or give them a call (speaks descent english) and ask for
a 'best price' (their prices seems to be 'recommended street price')
and mention Hifi Components price...

I wish!
At a trade show in London last year I spoke with the representative of Sony
about this very fact. There were guys down the road from us selling Sony
projectors for the same price we could buy them from Sony! And they were
offering 3 years interest free credit. It was even worth our while to buy from
our competitors rather than Sony! We didn't though!
Sony reps answer. "This is imposssible!", "No-one can parrallel import for
these prices". I offeredd to go and get HCC and show him the adds but it was
obvious they weren't interested. Home Cinema projection is a tiny part of
Sony's turnover.
The selling price is based on how much margin the dealer wants to make and how
much he can buy the unit for. If the distributor puts his arm in then it can
quickly become uneconomical for a dealer to sell his equipment. Especially if
the inflated UK price makes the equipment non-competative, which it often does.
Although, not in the case of the Sony VPL10.
Advert I spotted in this months HCC whilst browsing it in WHS.
When I buy it, I'll tell you ;-) (HCC that is, not the Sony)

Just been informed of the total lack of the blighters in the UK.
Looks like those German companies might get me dosh. Saves around £1700
on the UK RRP!

Thanks for the links Bjorn!
You just saved me money,
For example the Sony TA-E9000ES, is retail of £1299 in UK, from Germany £785
delivered !!
That is even less than av-store, who rarely have any stock, if they did the
price would be £949 plus delivery.
Cameras are also very good prices, but delivery eats into the saving, but
still maybe worth while.
Thanks Bjorn.

Do you have any links to German dealers that sell TagMclaren - could be
interesting to see the prices :-)

We've had them on order since mid November99. It didn't help that the
distributor lost the first order though! Some coming in this week so we might
get at least a dem unit!
If I had the time I would be trying to source these from outside GB as well.
What a saving! I'm off to Crestron in Belgium next week for some training.
Going to visit some distributors in Holland on the way. Gonna try to get some
goods leads to alternative suppliers. Beleive me guys, I'm on your side. As
long as SS make money I couldn't care how cheap they are!
All the best,
GF

..snip..
Hi Mark,
Sure, official TAG resellers - three of them. If it's the AV32R you're
looking for it has a RRP at 6600.- DEM (£2100) in Germany so it's
about the same as in UK.
Don't know the level of 'Best Price' or if these three ship to UK
but I recon you should in general be able to get a 10% discount on
the RRP in Germany (I've managed getting upto 20 - 25%).
http://www.hifi-pawlak.de/surround/surroundframe.htm
http://www.house-of-hifi.de/
(Look at 'Anzeigen' and you'll find their latest AD with High End..)
Another company selling HiFi gear for 25 years (and shipping
within Europe), most likley able to offer TAG as well:
http://www.hifi-alt.de/
Look under 'Hersteller' to see the different brands they offer.
Loads of Sony stuff (VPL-VW10 13.000.- DEM, TA-VA777ES 3.000.- DEM).
They're a little slow in answering e-mails (and sometimes do
it in German even if you write in English ! ..thank God for babelfish).
Another place with loads of intresting stuff as well:
http://www.hifi-shop.de/hifi-shop-area.htm
And finally, the best place to find AV info in Germany:
http://www.audio-markt.de/
Has a very good product database and links to other German pages
with DVD, Audio, Home-cinema.. and so on.
