The latest projectors are less than £2000 for a good picture, but it
seems nobody is using one.
I have a 29" Sony but its just too small.
I would be grateful if any body with a projector could give me any
advice on what lumens etc i need !!

Before you buy.
The more lumens, the better the picture.
if you go for a projector with a low lumen value, you will probably
have to invest in a better quality screen.
Look at http://www.direkt2u.co.uk/
i don't know much, but i have a projector, 1200 lumens, and i don't
have to worry about a top notch screen :)
You should also consider CRT. These projectors produce a more lifelike image
and have lower running costs than LCD/DLP (no lamps to replace/filters to
clean). As for image brightness, a CRT producing 130ANSI will compete with
LCD producing 500ANSI. Check out the classified adds section in Home Cinema
Choice's web site www.homecimemachoice.com There is a second hand Seleco
SVP310 for sale with electric screen for about £1200. The image quality from
this will be hard to beat (especially with anamorphic discs) without
spending quite a bit more.
Good luck

Projectors ARE brilliant - what are you talking about ?!! You have
obviously never seen one.

mmmm depends on what your definition of 'good' is. IMO the cheapest new
projector available for a good picture is the £3500 Ellie at
www.screensuk.co.uk. For home cinema, you can't get a good picture from an
LCD projector.
Second hand projectors can be had for as little as £2000. Gordon from
Stereo Stereo in Scotland has some s/h projectors for sale, I believe (on a
personal basis - not through his shop). Check out the forum on
www.homecinemachoice.com for more information and to contact Gordon.
And lots of people have projectors of some sort.

Depends on the size of the image you want, really. But the brightness is
not the first issue you should be thinking about - though it is an important
one.
Sorry this information is incorrect. More Lumens means brighter image, that's
all.
Higher gain screens, which I presume is what youare talking about, are not
always better. In fact in many applications they are significantly worse.
I'd listen to Chris's advice on this. Don't discount CRT. Best to try and see a
few then make up your mind.
