Hi all,

I'm currently eyeing the Panasonic NV-HD630 video recorder, but have
become a tad concerned by a couple of cursory reviews I've found.

Essentially, these magazine summaries suggest that the picture quality
on the new Panasonic range, including the 630, is inferior to previous
models.

I've always been very impressed with Panasonic videos in the past, but
comments such as "decent picture quality", which scores 3 and half stars
out of 5, is a tad worrying.

Does anyone have experience with, or comments about, either the 630 or
635 machines?

Many thanks,

Rod

Don't be.

It isn't. I had a Panasonic before (bought about four years ago). The
630 is better.

Also a highly dubious rating.

Yup. I bought a 630 a couple of months ago. Delighted with it. I don't
see why the 635 should be any different - as far as I can see, it's
essentially the same machine with a couple of extra features.

I totally agree. The 630 is excellent, and much better than similar priced
recorders from other brands (at least the ones I've seen)

Be careful of build quality. They don't seem to be built to last as
well as they used to. I know of someone who's NV HD620 has been in for
repair with replacement parts in the transport approx every 5 months
since new. And that means about 5 times now.

If you're a heavy user, you might want to look for something more
solidly built.

Matt.

PS I've not experienced the 630/635 models, but I thought I would
mention my experiences with the 620 anyway.

I have a 635, and to be honest I think it`s a piece of shit.
The remote is backwards - when you pick it up, you`ll find out what I mean.
The scan is un wieldy - after trying to stop, it carried on for about 1
minute ( viewing time)
It`s noisy I can hear the motors whirring when watching TV, and the VCR is
on.
The Pro logic steering is poor.

As soon as I can be bothered to un plug it, it`s going straight back to
Costco, and I`m going to buy another JVC or a sony.
