Hi,

I'm looking to buy a portable CD/MP3 player, any advice on what one to go
for? It must have ID3 tags and a large LCD, price is also an issue.

At the moment it's between the Diamond Rio SP90, the Napa DAV316, and the
Goodmans CDMP 370

Regards,

Scott M.

Hi Scott,

I have the NAPA DAV316, which performs very well. The main disadvantages are
that you lose all of the settings when its powered down, the navigation
around MP3's is a bit clumsy, and the colour is a very dubious! On the plus
side is battery life (the disc only spins when it needs to), ESP, Sony
mechanism, sound quality, ID3 tags, remote. I bought mine from Divineo for
£80 including shipping which seems good value.

I had the Goodmans initially, but it developed a fault such that the MP3
sound seemed to go into fast forward mode occasionally. It also loses the
settings, but has better navigation. The battery life is worse and the sound
quality with the standard 'phones is poor, although it improves considerably
using better-quality ones. I would have kept it and been happy with it if it
hadn't developed the fault; once this happened the worries over build
quality led me to change.

Slightly O/T, but...
Are there any full size MP3/CD players (that aren't DVD players) on the
market?
I've looked, but only found the portable ones..

What's wrong with a DVD player? I suspect that's what you'll have to buy
if you want mp3 playback.

Cheers.

James.

I know they'll do it, but I've got a PS2, so it just seems a bit of a waste.
But I guess if I want a full size one, that's my only option.

A £200 DVD player that will play MP3s will be a far better DVD player than a
PS2.
