Hi all....

I'm currently trying to decide what new TV to buy. I have a kind of
short list, but it would be narrowed down a bit more by knowing the
weight of the TVs as I have an existing stand that can only take a
certain maximum. So, if anyone has any of the following TVs, and is
willing to dig out the manual and look for the weight in the spec, I
would be very grateful.

Philips 36" and 32". Not sure of the model numbers - but they are the
new ones with the Pixel Plus system.

Toshiba 36" and 32" "picture Frame" (36PZ18 I think)

Sony 36" and 32".

I haven't got the exact model numbers to hand, but they should be
about the same as the heaviest thing is the tube.

Thanks.

Nick.

youre probably better checking out the manufactures websites, this info is
usually listed there.
The sony 36" for example shows as 90 kg @ sony.co.uk

Nick,

Tosh 36zp18 is stated at 75kg, I have my own stand and so I've just checked
the onopened stand box in my garage and it says 30kg.

I therefore through some clever mathematics deduce that the tv weighs only
55 kg.

I think the Sony tops the scales here at 90kg. Home Cinema Choice did
a 36inch group test recently, it had all the specs etc.

Regardless of manufacturer, they all use flat face tubes and you'll
find that 32" TVs weigh around 40-50 kilos, and 36" about 70-90 kilos.
Those 36" sets are *seriously* heavy!

Its not just the weight of the TV that matters. The stand is often integral
in ensuring stability. IE the tosh36 which I have, has to be fixed to its
stand, and the stand has a large slug of lead underneath at the back.
Without this the TV is front heavy and could conceivably be toppled forward
causing serious injuries.
As someone else posted this TV is very heavy, and takes 2 people to lift
onto its stand.

Thanks for replying. The reason I asked, rather than looking on the
websites was because I couldn't find the info on the websites !

Is the weight for the tosh 36" (75kg) the TV on its own though ? I
thought it was - 55kg seems very light for a 36"....

Nick,

Just got home and checked the product brochure.

Guess what, my clever mathematics are flawed.

It states the 36ZP18 is 75kg without the stand.

Not good for some one who runs his own business which involves dealing in
many currencies.

I think if it was my commission I was looking at I'd have been mightily
pissed off.

Ah well.
