I know this isn't the most interesting topic in the world but it is
something that has been on my mind for a number of years now.

Why is Uma Thurman referred to by many as "the most beautiful women in
the world"?. I have seen many movies in which she has appeared and can
say that her acting is ok but cannot understand why she is given this
epithet. I admit she is pretty, she has the classically obvious
advantages e.g tall, thin, cheekbones, blonde hair, blue eyes etc. but
then so do many other women.

I recently saw "the truth about cats and dogs" on video and found
Janeane Garofalo far more attractive than Uma, which rather spoiled
the plot for me as its point was that one girl was blonde and gorgeous
(Uma) whilst the other was witty but plain (Janeane). Now I could not
say the same for either Gerard Depardeu in the other Cyrano de
Bergerac movie on which "cats and dogs" was based, not that I find any
man attractive but I was using this as an argument point only.

Maybe it is just me. I read a recent article about the new Batman and
Robin movie in which Joel Schumaker said that he needed the most
beautiful women in the world (again - sigh) for the part of Poison Ivy
and so that is why he chose Uma Thurman.

I think the most attractive role I have seen Uma play is the one most
removed from her normal look in Pulp Fiction, but of course, she did
look different.

Any Uma fans out there please do not flame me. I am only expressing an
opinion and want to get some feedback as to what others think. If you
agree with me please say so, if you don't and think Uma is the most
beautiful .................. etc. please tell me why.

Vernon - check out "Baron Munchausen" (not sure about the spelling) Uma
plays Venus on the Half Shell. Love at first sight.

It's hype. A lot of it has to do with her being current in the film
industry. Lauren Bacall was once the hottest thing too - and really was
an extremely beautiful woman.

These arguments over the most beautiful woman are specious anyway,
aren't they? Character is part of beauty, which is perhaps why you
found the other woman in 'The Truth About Cats and Dogs' more
attractive? (I haven't seen it).

I think Schumacker needed a classic beauty, and that's what Thurman is.
Any number of women could fit that category, but he also needed the
name.

One of the most beautiful women I've ever seen in a film is Nancy Olsen
(Betty Schaffer in Sunset Boulevard).
