Just read this article, OK untill the brief but scathing comments about this
newsgroup. Totally unfair and showing zero amount of research. I have mailed
the author with the following.....

RE: DVD Trading article

Greetings!

I felt I had to write after reading your article on DVD trading sites. I had
no problem with the article until your mention of the uk.media.dvd
newsgroup, coincidentally where I found the link for this article!

Your comments about the group appeared to be based on virtually no first
hand experience of reading the group on a regular basis. To date I believe
there are only two traders that have a "Bad" reputation, compared to the 20+
individual trades and purchases I myself have made over the last few months.

The prices are also much more realistic, why pay someone for the privilage
of trading a DVD when on the newsgroups the two parties only pay postage.
Plus the range of titles is in another world, individuals often post in a
day a larger and more interesting stock of available titles than the last
two months stock on the trading sites.

No, you can keep your trading sites, no non-commercial site can ever hope to
build up even one tenth the readership and turnover of alt.media.dvd.

Deaks.

Well done, Deaks!

I've been trading for about two years now on this group and can
honestly say I have not had 1 bad trade in over 100 transactions!

It just takes abit of common sense when doing the deal and regular
reading of the group to see if the person trading is a regular here.
If they are not a regular - be wary. There was a thread a while back
regarding Zoe the Dog and the possibility of bad trading experiences so
I e-mailed a couple of questions and set some rules for the trade to
take place and completed the transaction with no problems at all -
thanks Zoe/Daniel.

I have not used the trading houses - purely on the basis of some charge
up to £5 for the facility - er, no thanks-stick it up your arse!

Regards, Tony the Long Term Trader!

I have updated the article with some comments from "the other side". I did
ask for comments whilst I was researching the article, but had no reply. It
seems that criticism is the only way to get any sort of reaction!

Anyway, the article has been updated, I welcome any further comments that
users of the ng may have.
