The player I have was bought through techtronics and as far as I know is
fully cracked for all regions. I have changed the region malually throught
the remote during standy but to no avail.
I have some 150+ dvds of which around 3/4 are region one and have never had
this problem before.
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem ?
All advice greatly appreciated

feature...etc.

We've just received a report that it may be possible to bypass the RCE
protection on The Patriot on the Toshiba range of DVD players. This is
currently unconfirmed, but according to reader, Mike Jones this is what
you have to do on the Toshiba SD100E:
 Insert the disc and wait for the RCE screen to appear
 Press 'Memory' on the remote control
 Enter title 01, chapter 00
 Press Enter
This should play the film! To access the extras, just enter different
title numbers - we'll try to get a list sorted as soon as we have a
chance to check this out ourselves. In the meantime, if anyone tries
this and can confirm it works, please pop a comment against this news
item along with the appropriate details.
Update
We've had a further confirmation from Shaun Donovan. He's also supplied
me with a list of titles and the corresponding extra:
 02 - The Art of War Featurette
 03 - The True Patriots Featurette
 04 - Trailer 1
 05 - Trailer 2
 06 - 11 Deleted Scenes

Enter the disc.
Allow it to start
Press Stop.
Select Title 1, Chapter 2 and press PLAY
1. Put Patriot disc and let it play until the "Cannot play" message
comes up
2. Press "Memory"
3. Highlight "T" and press "1"
4. Highlight "C" and enter "1"
5. Press "Play"
6. Press "Clear" (this clears the memory when playing so the whole disc
plays)

(Not tested on other Toshiba machines but this may also work (please
let us know if it does!))
We are working on a 100% solution to the RCE issue for these players
but in the mean while you can play RCE discs by doing this.
Wait for the message to say you cannot play this disc (HA HA) and ....
 Press MEMORY
 Select TITLE 1, CHAPTER 1
 Press PLAY, & then CLEAR (This is to clear the memory when playing,
otherwise you will only see chapter 1)
 The film will now play !

Can anyone with a UK Toshiba 2109 B player, a Techtronics mod and The
Patriot disc please try the following (as I think it may work and it
will be
a better solution than the manual chapter/track selection workaround
using
the memory and clear functions.
(1) Go to the picture menu (in setup) and change from Auto to Pal
(2) Put the player in standby using the remote.
(3) Press 1 on the remote with the player in standby (hence setting the
player to R1)
(4) Insert the Patriot disc
(5) Wait patiently to see if this work around works
I think this may work for two reasons.
The first being that the UK player reports itself as R2 even when modded
(check by pressing zoom 606 zoom) but you can temporarily manually
select
the player to act as a Region 1 player on power up by pressing 1 on the
remote in standby.
Although when you put another R2 disc in the player automatically
returns to
Auto and R2 to allow the disc to play (basically it seems R2 discs are
given
preference to R1 discs, which would seem logical for full compatibility
with
home grown discs).
Secondly, purely because I have seen no postings of this method being
attempted.
______________________________________________
Some of that may be repeated. I've never had the chance to try any of
this out cos I've not yet got a RCE disc.
Please let us know how you get on with *exactly* how you managed to get
it working (if you do).

Before you buy.
I believe you have to disconnect power to the machine to fully activate the
region change? You do on my modified Samsung anyway.

I stand to be corrected.
and if there is then I need one.

Err i dont think you have becuase there is no current mod available for a
Tosh that allows manual region changing. (ive a techtronics 100E)
Interestingly enough, after 'manually' selecting Region 1 the Pal/Auto
setting is no longer available in the picture menu(have a look and see !).
Incidently if your player is in standby you can press'8' on the remote for
Pal 60 output or press '9' for pure NTSC when playing region 1 discs.
All these functions are well documented in the techtronics mod manual (to
which I am referring)
I hope all these findings help to achieve a more suitable workaround for
this RCE problem.
I suggest that anyone with the Patriot disc and a Toshiba 2109 B modified by
techtronics to try the following.
(1) Remove any DVD disc in tray and close tray.
(2) Go to the picture menu and the Pal/Auto setting to Pal
(3) Using the remote switch the unit to standby.
(4) Press '1' Key on remote.
(5) Insert The Patriot DVD disc and wait to see if the RCE is defeated
(6) Reply to this newsgroup with your findings.
Thanks.
Jamie.
In standby pressing the following keys has the following effect
'1' = NTSC disc
'2' = Pal disc
'8' = Pal60 output
'9' = Pure NTSC output
Sorry !
(we live in hope !)
