Home Cinema Choice rate it 4.5 out of 5. Any more reviews?

Hi Nick,

I have that TV, and to be honest, I've had it 'repaired' because of
hiss on the rear channels. Still doesn't sound that good. You really
need a DD/AC3 separate amp and good speakers to get the best out of
your DVDs. My recommendation, get the best TV you can and get a AC3
amp and speakers on the side. All the reviews I read really rated the
Tosh TV for sound. I can't see how they can say that to be honest! Go
to Deja-news and have a look at past messages, make up your own mind.
Demand a proper demo at the shop your thinking of buying it from.
Compare it to a AC3 amp too (if they sell them). Don't rely on other
peoples opinions - it's your money your parting with. And alot of it
too!

MMichael.

I can't comment directly but we just bought the 28" model last week, and
much preferred the picture it displayed to the Wega's (of which we also
had demonstrations). It also fitted well into our furniture styling which
the wega did not. The Dolby 5.1 is superb with the Yamaha amp we use, no
complaints at all.

I've got one. The picture quality is excellent although the autosize
function doesnt seem to work correctly all the time. I used the DD
decoder for a while but bought some decent speakers which made a big
difference. However when I bought a seperate amp the sound quality
increase was amazing.

So in conclusion it's a good TV and for someone new to the Home cinema
experience will do just nicely for a wee while but you really need to
get a seperate amp in the long run.

I've got the Tosh and, although it does have a few niggles, it's a
superb TV and I'm amazed at the sound! My Pioneer 717 produces some
amazing effects through it.

I've never heard the rear speaker hiss (mine are boosted way up)
although I have experienced the slight barelling of the sides of the
picture - this can be cured in the service menu.

I'd recommend this set.

Thanks

That's a bit of a shame. It's tricky because if I plumb for a WEGA 32"
then I only just have enough to buy a reasonably pro-logic midi system
(circa £300). Hence, no DD5.1! Such a tough judgement call.

I have the same set. Can you document the procedure within the service menu,
please?

Ermm...no! Basically because I haven't done it, I'm gonna get a
service engineer out to mine as I have a 5 year warranty onsite.

I do however have the service menu options with a few items
explained...
