REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the following changes
in the uk.* Usenet hierarchy:

delete newsgroup uk.media.broadcast.commercials

Newsgroup line:
uk.media.broadcast.commercials Broadcast adverts in the UK

*** ALL DISCUSSION MUST TAKE PLACE IN UK.NET.NEWS.CONFIG ***

This is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.
Further procedural details are given below.

RATIONALE: uk.media.broadcast.commercials

It has long been custom within uk.* to check for groups that are not
being used and then to remove them. By doing this we keep the number of
dead groups down increasing the chances that someone stumbling across a
group will find it useful.

An analysis of the posts to uk.media.broadcast.commercials from
2013-11-10 to 2014-11-10 has shown that there were no posts in this
period.

It is not the intention to remove any groups that are, or people
believe will be, useful going forward. If you are a user of the group
and feel it should remain then please reply to this and join the debate
on uk.net.news.config so I know not to press ahead with this.

CHARTER:
uk.media.broadcast.commercials

uk.media.commercials is for the discussion of advertisements broadcast on
television and radio in the UK, past, present and future, and *allied*
poster or print campaigns.

Poster, print and other campaigns which are not allied to broadcast
adverts are *off topic*.

Advertising

Advertising is forbidden, with the following exceptions:

Suppliers of broadcast-advertising specific goods and services (for
example, books about or videos/CDs of adverts) may post a pointer to
their website or invitation to request details. This may not exceed
four lines and may be posted no more often than once every three
months. The subject line must begin "ADVERT".

Binaries & Formatting

With the exception of PGP signatures, encoded binaries (e.g. pictures,
word processor files, .zip files, "business cards", etc), HTML, or
similar non-plaintext postings are *forbidden*. Such material belongs on
a web or ftp site, to which a pointer may be posted.

Posters are invited to read a guide on the World Wide Web at
http://www.usenet.org.uk/ukpost.html for further information on how to
configure newsreaders to post to uk.* newsgroups.

Warning

Anyone posting contrary to this charter may be reported to their
postmaster and or ISP.

END CHARTER

PROCEDURE:

This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes. In this phase of
the process, any potential problems with the proposal should be raised
and resolved. The discussion period will continue for a minimum of 10
days, starting from when this RFD is posted to uk.net.news.announce
(i.e. until November 22nd) after which a Call For Votes (CFV) may be
posted by a neutral vote taker if the discussion warrants it.
Alternatively, the proposal may proceed by the fast-track method. Please
do not attempt to vote until this happens.

This RFD attempts to comply fully with the "Guidelines for Group Creation
within the UK Hierarchy" as published regularly in uk.net.news.announce
and is available from http://www.usenet.org.uk/guidelines.html (the UK
Usenet website). Please refer to this document if you have any questions
about the process.
