Hi, I'm trying to remember which book I read this in:

It's towards the end, there's some sort of dream-like or post-death state
the main character is in, and he's telling of a future London, St Nelson's
Column, Trafalgar Square, all overgrown, collapsed, debris - what London
would be like if left untouched for a thousand years...

Does this ring any bells? I'm sure it's a Michael Marshall Smith book, or
at a push perhaps Orson Scott Card.

Thanks.

Yes, it is _Only Forward_ by Michael Marshall Smith.

How did Lord Nelson come to be canonised?

A couple of questions. How do I stop the wires short-circuiting, and what's
this nylon washer for?

A great book with a terrible ending and 2nd half.
Smiths problem is he has ZERO clue how to conclude a story.

I liked the ending of Spares.

I'd say "a great book that was replaced by a wholly different
book about halfway through," myself.

Not really disagreeing with you, mind you.

'These days Smith is just Michael Marshall, who writes X-Filish
