It's towards the end, there's some sort of dream-like or post-death state
the main character is in, and he's telling of a future London, St Nelson's
Column, Trafalgar Square, all overgrown, collapsed, debris - what London
would be like if left untouched for a thousand years...
Does this ring any bells? I'm sure it's a Michael Marshall Smith book, or
at a push perhaps Orson Scott Card.

book about halfway through," myself.
