Of course this means I'll be very busy for a few months.

So much for my giving you guys an advance notice.

And it's scheduled for a few weeks before my birthday! That'll give me
something to tell my parents I want... ^_^

Ah, well; at least you were thinking of us, and it's the thought that
counts.

Ack then we really have to get on it top be sure it is out in time!!!!!

I still need to do some image captures and then write a bunch of newer
entries before it goes to press. I have a very large list of items that
can still be written up and as soon as I am done with an essay I have to
do for an anthology and the image work I'll be combing the list for
choice items. Especially food, I have my priorities.

Then if vol.2 sells well there may be more publications on this line. In
any case the web supplement will continue to grow.

Not yet. But when it is closer to the release date you can do so through
your local independent bookstore. In fact I urge you to order from your
local bookshops as a way of encouraging them to stock more anime and
manga related stuff.

Until sales really climb that would cost way too much. Heck I'm even
scaling back on anime cons as I've been spending my vacation time

An anime-based reality show? Tonight on _Oniichan_ you get the chance
to vote to evict another resident. Will it be the angst-ridden mecha
pilot, the cat-girl, the robot maid, or the nerdy boy?

Well, the winner of that is obvious - you've got a robot maid
and a cat-girl in the same house with a nerdy boy. I predict many scenes
involving accidental-walking-into-shower incidents.

Somehow, the words "anime-based" and "reality show" don't quite sound
right together. ^_^

Amazon, for instance. Although past experience points out that just

Or the opposite. In the past year I have bought several new US published
books that Amazon does not list. I just ordered them through my local
book dealer. Small and specialized presses just fall through the cracks,
or worse have their works sold above the list price, tho' Amazon seems
to have dropped that practice.

Too right! There are enough additives in my coffee as it is!

Well, I survived today, and the coffee just about lasted the whole day. If
you want a hint of what I was up to, try and work out how this happened:

I'm not over-keen, but probably have one or two coffees per month, as long

But if you like hazelnut, why not have a hazelnut drink? Why spoil a
good coffee by making it taste like not-coffee? Or are we talking about
one of the bitumen-like substances that passes for coffee in places
like Starbucks?.

Jamaica Blue Mountain[1]. It's the only way to be sure...

[1] There was a time when just "Blue Mountain" would have done. Then
some crooks discovered that the Blue Mountain label was an excuse to
quadruple the price, so you can now get beans that claim to be Blue
Mountain but with the word "Kenya" written very small before the "Blue"
(and at a price that appears to be a bargain for /real/ Blue Mountain,
but is actually a rip-off). Bastards.

Because I had a cold once in Tokyo and the vending machines were
doing a hazelnut flavour which I found was very soothing for a sore
throat. Its not my fault the active ingredient was obviously something
dangerously addictive, like extract of strawberry Pocky... [1]

[1] No, it didn't taste of strawberry as well. But this must

That's another matter entirely. I deplore the rise of reality TV too, but
then consider the amount of success that soap operas have gathered over
the years by trying to portray a stylised version of reality. It seems
that the moral majority must have its fill of things to gossip about or it
gets all cranky!

Ha! I wouldn't be surprised if you *could* get medicine from a
vending machine in Japan, but I simply found this coffee to be soothing
as a kind of beneficial by-product.

Soap operas have become so successful that the events in their storylines
are regarded by some newspapers as being front page headline news. Which
is a bit worrying when you consider that it's fiction!

Oh, them... That would perhaps be a nicer diversion than many topics one
encounters around the groups. "Paws, not war."

Oh, and perhaps meganekko could usefully be added here, as that also
appears to be a more appealing subject than I would have thought not so
long ago...

I think there's always been an obsession with catgirls, it's just that

Okay, though imagine a M&M that tastes of peanut but doesn't
actually contain a nut, rather than "butter" per se. Of course, it May

It was a completely new category to me when I encountered the "species" in
anime, so presumably has a novelty value.

Recently, I've been catching the occasional episode of a show called
Kannaduki no Miko, which contains both mikos and gient mecha.

Unfortunately, neither of the mikos wears glasses. If they did, it
would presumably be a Mega-Mecha-Meganekko-Miko show 8-)

And of course, there are *no* old catgirls, so thats Toyotas

I had to remind myself what a "Miko" is. One link I came across
mentioned the " temple priestess of beautiful boys", at which point my
brain shut down.
Despite having walked round what feels like every shrine and
temple in Kyoto [1], I've only ever seen a Miko once, at that at some
distance. From which I conclude either that a) the ratio of gnarled,
elderly Japanese preists to Miko is staggeringly high or b) Miko are in
fact made up by the anime industry to sell more anime. ^_^

based around the UK anime scene.
I'm aware I'm something of a serial offender on that point,
though... ^_^
