I was in the first year intake of comprehensive pupils in 1972. When it
changed to comprehensive it was renamed The Grange School and stayed that
way until after I left. Around 1979/80 it merged with Sheraton school and
was renamed Sheraton Grange but a few of years ago it went back to being
called The Grange. My oldest son starts there in September this year.
The buildings have not changed at all from how you will remember them other
than an addition to the dining hall and the building of a new sports hall.
Incidentally, do you remember the 'secret passage' accessible from a small
door in the back of a cupboard which allowed access to the rafters above the
classrooms?
Regards
Colin Walker
Wasnt there a Sixth Form College started up somewhere, perhaps in Yarm.
I can't exact;y remember when the school became the Sheraton Grange, but I'm
certain it was after I left.
If anyone out there was in the same year as me (last form was 5Di), then get
scribbling! I've kept in touch with a few characters from then and I visit
the area regularly even though I live mostly in Derby. I'd like to see how
you've all got on.
Cheers, Ste Cosgrove.

The 6th Form college was built along the road from the school on the other
side of the Stockton & Billingham tech. college. It's called Stockton Sixth
Form College and has been there since about 1976.
My brothers went to Grangefield Grammer in the 60s and pretty warped
charectors they turned out to be. The main disscussion points with them
regarding GG seems to be the sweetie pocket in the girls knickers.

I've often wondered how people turn into computer geeks and after my fourth
posting on this topic I guess I now know.
Cosgrove, you have really understated the situation with your sadness.
Please seek medical help.
Funny seeing someone mention Harry Horsman though. Still remember him
picking me out for not singing. I insisted that I had been singing - my
friend (Andrew Ward) said he could he me singing easily. It wasn't until
years later that I realised there's something called 'keeping in key' that I
can't do. He was a scary man anyway.
I've just spotted another NG in the newsgroup list - so this is going to
county-durham too? I'll have to take a look at that one. What's this thing
about cross-posting? Is this what we are doing now? Is it bad? Seriously -
I don't know what the issue is.
Cheers

Yes.

It could be - but in this case it isn't.

The uk.local.* groups have been plagued by xposting and an attempt is
being made to impose a limit. In theory one should only xpost if it is
relevant to both/all groups so it is a good idea to check which groups
you are posting to when replying.
This seems an appropriate post to mention that the best way to keep in
touch with what is happening in the management of the uk.* hierarchy
is by subscribing to uk.net.news.announce - very low traffic, normally
5-10 posts a week.
I've deliberately left both ulc-d and ult in the newsgroup line as it
is useful information for all subscribers.

I admit I'm sad Smithson (phew, nearly called you M**fo then), but I don't
remember Harry complaining about my singing but then again I was petrified
that he'd go off on one with his karate chop hand thing he used to do. And
he's right anyway, you sounded like the hooter that goes off at ICI on New
Years Day.

I'll be doing some work in Ayr tomorrow. Normally down there every few
weeks. It's about 1.5 hrs away from me.
Good to hearJohn is still alive too. Ever hear from any others ?
Is Miffo still performing the ZoomFace?
Anyway, all this tiff &nonsense about secret passageways coming arround the
back of the office used by HH. Sounds like something out of ScoobyDoo.(or

Are you still buying your mum U2 records - I'm sure you said something about
buying records you liked for her!
I found Colin Dooley about 2 months ago by searching for his name in Alta
Vista. He has a web site that contains no personal information but it had
'another fungus the bogey man product' or something as a comment in the
HTML. So I knew it was him and got in touch. He's in Spain now. e-mail me
if you want his e-mail address. (Don't forget to remove the 'nospam' bit).
Or maybe I'll e-mail him about the NG if I have the address at home.
I live on a narrow boat in Iver/Langley near Slough with my girlfriend. I
work as a computer programer (who would have guessed). You can see some of
what I get up to at the website mentioned below. I visit the area about
twice a year. I never wanted to leave the area and always planned to get
back up north one day. I've never managed to find a job there though. The
agencies said I was being a un-flexible when I said I wanted a job north of
Birmingham and south of Scotland! Geographically I thought I was being very
flexible but in terms of jobs it restricted the choice too much.
Nice to hear from you. I'm surprised more chums from the Grange have not
appeared - we were all geeks and should be on the internet by now. It's not
even geeky any more. Met Wildy and Andrew Stephenson a couple of years ago
in a pub. That's about it. I had to give up the zoom-face as most other
people seemed to think it was odd. I'm sure it was John & Ste who did it
more than me anyway!
Have you seen the comments John's making on the NG about the Middlehaven
area! Funny. You can never tell if he is being serious - probably is in
this case.
Cheers

Listen here Smithson, the zoom face was never odd and always gave the
recipient a well deserved lift through an otherwise dreary day. You may be
right in that you never performed the art as often as other officianados,
though there was always the chance in your case of serious impact damage if
you didn't brake to a halt early enough, for reasons which we have no need
to go into.
