Old school in Croydon

Hi all,

I'm trying to find some information on an old school in Croydon that was
demolished some years ago after it lay unused for quite some time. The
school was located in Longley Road and was adjeacent to a Church on the
corner of Longley Road and Sumner Road.

I grew up in the area and remember playing in the old school buildings and
churchyard, which was in a very bad state of repair at the time, and
disused.

I know the old school, or at least part of it, was used by an electrical
import/export company at some point but I can't remember what the school was
called! Anyone know?

Thanks Jim,

Tried using Friendsreunited but it was down at the time. However, I have
since found the school on the Croydon council website. Funilly enough, it
was called Christ Church Primary. Obvious really when you consider it's next
to Christ Church!

The church was Christchurch. Was it perhaps Christchurch School?

it seems your school was called christ church (longley rd).

goto CROYDON ONLINE, HOME/HISTORY/GENEALOGY an see the list of schools. the date of the school was 1863 to 1958. see for yourself. there maybe more info on site but i did not go into it. hope this helps.

I was a pupil at Christchurch School, Longley Road, Croydon from 1948 until 1954. Is there anything in particular you would like to know about it?

If you are still interested the school was indeed Christ Church and the headmistress was a Miss Rosemary Osment. A family with your surname lived in Dennett Road, would that be you? If so we were neighbours.

I've just noticed your post.
Did your parents have the sweet shop in Dennett Road just down the alley from Longley Road? I doubt if you remember me but we were at Christ Church at the same time.
Are you sure about Miss Rosemary Osment? She was always referred to as "Mrs Osment" and on my school reports she signed herself "V Osment". I've been trying to research her family background. Also some of the other teachers. Do you remember a "Miss Myreen" (not sure about the spelling)?
