No way mate, I'm losing brain cells as fast as you are, but see if this
is any good I first saw you (with Dave Roberts in Godchild) at the
Tiger Moth, Meir. I particularly liked the CSNY stuff you used to do.
You played a 12 string and inspired me to buy one, which I still have.
Do you remember Mad Mick?

In the sixties, what later became the Out of Town was the Plough,
notorious as a pick-up place for prostitutes. I seem to remember the
landlord was actually convicted for allowing the pub to be a "habitual
resort of prostitutes". It was then closed for a while, and re-opened
some time in the 70s as the Out Of Town.

Also in Town Road was the Sea Lion, an old pub with a stableyard which
was demolished to build the Potteries Shopping Centre. I certainly
played there in the early 70s.

Yep, that's the one. "The Sea Lion". Very atmospheric, not bad acoustics and
a good bread-and-butter gig for local bands 60's onward, but sod those
stairs when you've drunk your limit.

Yep, Keith Fisher was *the* local booking agent way back then, later
converted his Hope St premises to a fine second-hand bookshop. Remember
'Carol' Keith's assistant of old? I think the only other agent in those days
was one Dave Daniels, lawyer.

To help us break this trance of sweet nostagia, somebody better mention
"Sparky "

Hi, The pub in Town Rd could be the Sea Lion or the one down the road
called the Plough later re-named the plough. I remember Keith Fisher when
he used to be drummer in the Lion Paw Ramblers. Later called the Maurders
other members were Bryan Martin real name Bryan Oakes, Kenny Sherratt who
was approached by Billy J Kramer to join his group. I remenber a local
singer called Hutch I think his group was shed or chicken shack. I can
remember them playing at the Green ways at Baddeley Green.

Keith is *gone*, I believe. Moved somewhere more mundane for a couple of
years prior to that. Where's that place - land of the second-hand bookshops?
Ross-on-Wye or summat soundalike?

Was just trying to recall the most-played covers of the Sixties. I think
Eddie Floyd's "Knock on Wood" was one of 'em. "Midnight Hour"? Ey-up, where
did I put me flairs?

One other thing I remember is that the Christmas decorations in the
upstairs room of the Sea Lion were kept up all year round. There were
never quite the same after a team of sword dancers performed in there.

I was in the Secrets in the sixties. Dave Daniels and Mike Gold who owned "The Embassy" were our managers. We got the residency at the "Crystal" and loads of other played there and down in "The Gold Mine" too. We were all mates all stars then. Shondells, olympicics,Wombats, Spirits, loads more and Manchester Liverpool bands too.I saw scratch in the Seventies in "The Old Port Vale" Gordon ? Was on lead guitar a great prospect. Mad Mick was a true hero, and all the older groups Hutch, Alan Saunders Gerry Grant all had loads of harmless fun with him.
