the main restaurant (up on the 3rd floor, iirc), searcy's, used to be
superb. it had richard corrigan as head chef and for a while was the source
of some of the best food in london. corrigan has moved on (to open a new
restarant in the west end, i think), but i'd be surprised if the restaurant
is really that bad now.

J'agree. It is unimaginably bad. And there is nowhere very close where one
can eat without having to sit down. Why can't they allow a Pret A Mange to
go in. I am sure Pret would love to put a shop in. And before people start
knocking Pret, insert whatever snack bar/restaurant/bar you want in the
third sentence of this post.

That's good to hear they have put a Pret in the National Gallery, though
there was one just around the corner anyway. My gripe with the food in the
Barbican is that you're stuck--there's no where else you can go without
risking missing what you went there to see.

I agree, 20 minutes is far, far too long.

Let me know how you get on. I would certainly be happy to write myself or
sign anything you have written. I can't tell you how bad a date once went
with my fiancee when we were both starving and couldn't find anything decent
to eat. She gets very cranky when she is hungry.

I've eaten there a few times before seeing things in the National Theatre
and not had too much of a problem. Not cheap, though.
