After weeks of blasting and painting of HMS Belfast's hull at the
historic Portsmouth naval dockyard on the south coast of England, the
Second World War cruiser is about to return to her permanent London
mooring on the Thames. She's expected back at Tower Bridge on Monday,
July 12 after a voyage lasting about 53 hours.

Work on the warship in dry dock has taken longer than expected, not
least because painting of the hull has to stop in wet weather. But the
hull itself turned out to be in very good condition: not bad for a
61-year-old ship!

Timings:
Saturday, July 10, 9.20am: Portsmouth Harbour mouth
+ + + + + + + + + +
Monday, July 12:
9.00am: Gravesend

able to watch the fun online, and there are prizes to be won!

power these days still (Can`t be surely?).

Me too. Believe it or not, this will be the first time I've seen Tower
Bridge raised. Thanks, Gillian.

Hey John, where r u gonna be? U going to the ULL meet today (10/7/99)? If so
then maybe we can get a meet going on Monday? I am planning a full trip
(Greenwich to dock) on the bicycle. I reckon pictures of HMS Belfast with
the Dome will be pretty cool. So I intend to go north of the river to start
and then head west and south. The joys of a bike!

Regards

Ciarán
