Why is the guy at Bembridge the guy who supplied pcs as scrooge???? as I was
the owner of DP Computers with my brother until April this year when I sold
my share and moved back up country see www.dpcomputersiow.co.uk I hope you
don't think I had anything to do with scrooge. I heard he was selling
specialist software as an agent for a company in the USA. my brother knows
more email him at de...@dpcomputersiow.co.uk and if he can remember the name
of the company he will tell you. I know the company used to advertise in
micromart last year.

Now you tell me!

I nearly bought isleofwight.com off him ages ago. It was actually a part pay
and part swap of domains arrangement. We never got round to it though
because he had a better offer from Netguides (the dreaded web design company
who I just love to hate... that's another story which I might just post one
day...) and even they never got round to buying it. He's now trying to set
up a site which is supposed to be "THE most comprehensive guide to the Isle
of Wight" but he's been saying that for the last 6 months but who knows. I'm
also trying to swap one of my domains for another one of the hundreds he's
snapped up but he hasn't replied yet.

I also visited his InstantQuote2000 web site when it was online, couldn't
see what the fuss was about but can't see why it's suddenly disappeared.

Now that IS an unreasonable statement.

I have met the proprietors of this company and found them to be very genuine
and pleasant.

Please explain your problem ?

OK Gotcha and David. Firstly, I went undercover to find out what netguides
were charging advertisers for advertising on their IW Guide at
www.wight-holidays.co.uk. They said they get 500,000 hits per month. I
picked up on this and told them that hits are not actually the amount of
visitors to a site. See http://www.wightindex.com/myths.php3 for info on
that. They then owned up and said that they do actually get 5000 visitors a
month. Conclusion: They are conning their advertisers into thinking that
they get 500,000 visitors a month because potential advertisers, unless
rather techie, will not know the difference between hits and visitors, so
they will think half a million visitors a month will see their advert on the
netguides site. Plus they are a competitor ofmine in terms of visitors.
Here's our correspondance regarding the above:

Hi, I would like to know how much you charge for a listing in the
accommodation section of http://www.netguides.co.uk/wight please. I would
like a listing on the accommodation page and a web page like most of the
other hotels listed there - how much would all this cost? Regards, Daniel.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------

Dear Daniel,

Thank you very much for your email enquiry. We would be delighted to promote
your business in our very successful Isle of Wight Guide. We would make your
page free of charge. We have a monthly charge for the page within the guide
as follows:

Basic Page (no photograph) £ 8 per month
Standard Page (one photograph) £12 per month
Super Page (two photographs) £15 per month

Custom pages can also be produced if you wish to have something more
comprehensive. Extra pages in the guide are only £8 per month. We are also
offering special three or four page website packages which include a guide
page plus a website under your own domain name from just £430 plus domain
name fees (currently £60 for a .co.uk name for two years, then about £10 per
year to retain your name) - a saving of £244 on normal
rates. Our Isle of Wight Guide has been extremely effective for our clients
over the past four years. We strive to keep it high in the search engines to
drive traffic to our client pages. We are currently achieving over half a
million hits per month on the site. We have just re-launched the site with a
new summer look under the domain
name of www.wight-holidays.co.uk and will be further enhancing the tourism
aspects of it. I trust this is sufficiently detailed for your to make a
decision but if you require further information please contact us by email
or call us on 282255 at any time. We would be delighted to visit you to
discuss your requirements or to welcome you here if you wish to see our
operation first hand. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Amanda
Beck.
