Use a British one, support local people not foreigners.

I don't know any in Hereford but most of the ones in Malvern are good,
the Bengal Brasserie, Paprika and Spice Hut in particular. Cafe Mela
in Worcester is fantastic.

Most of the people I've met who run Indian restaurants are British,
not foreigners.

When I subscribed to this newsgroup and the first lot of articles downloaded, I
rather suspected that I might get a moronic answer like this.

Bottom of St Owens St, opposite The Barrels pub, excellent (can't
remember the name, its just changed hands and been renamed). Avoid Taste
of Raj opposite (next to The Barrels, overpriced, poor food and surly
staff). Also the one in Eign Street, opposite what used to to be the Eye
Hospital, near Sinsburys, is highly praised by my daughter, who is an
Indian foodie.

Alternatively, you could buy some greasy British fish and chips which
may satisfy the racist bigots.

TBH, I do not really eat fish and chips, but it is about time we did
start to support our own.

A lot of them are not British either.
It is about time we started to support our own people, that is one of
the reason Rover went belly up.

I am not racist, but too many British companies are either closing down
or being taken over by foreign companies.

So? Here's a big clue for you, none of us are indigenous to this
land, we're all immigrants. My family came here in the 1680s. Should
I go home too?

No, Rover went bust because they make shit products than no-one wants
to buy and there may have been some incredibly dodgy accounting
practises by management too.

Ah, the classic "I'm not racist but..." which invariably means the
writer can't accept that they are racist/homophobic/whatever.

And the best chip shop in Malvern is owned by Greek Cypriots...

It's all global now. I'm in the States. Do you know which foreign country
is the largest investor in American business? Japan? No. Germany? No.
Canada? No. Well, it's Britain. Yes, I was suprised, too.

Many thanks to you, Tim, and Twangin' for the information.

In an ideal world, the Hereford Balti Tandoori, which two of you recommend and
to which we can take our own drink, would be the one opposite The Barrels, so
that we could take in their excellent beer to accompany the meal.

But life isn't like that, is it?

Roy.

The one opposite The Barrels (renamed Jalsagor) now has a licence which
probably precludes you from carrying in a quart of Old Goats Droppings
in from over the road. On the up side, you're unlikely to meet any of
the racists there that seem to infest this board.

Following my request for information about the best Indian restaurant in
Hereford, my two sons and I managed to get the best of both worlds last
Saturday night. We had some excellent beer at The Barrels, and found that
they did 4-pint takeaways.

So we got a couple and took them to The Hereford Balti Tandoori, which fully
lived up to the recommendations. The starter were so huge that we could have
settled for those, and my prawn Madras balti blew my mind.

Thanks again to Tim, Twangin' and Sheepmaster for the recommendation. I shall
certainly eat there again when I am next in Hereford.

In fact the county is well served with good eating places. I have had superb
food at The Crown, Woolhope, every time I have been there, and on Sunday
night I had a whitebait starter in the Talbot Hotel, Ledbury, which again was
a meal in itself and quite delicious.

Glad you found it acceptable. Certainly The Crown is excellent, not
tried The Talbot so will give that a go at some point.

It's the UK, followed by Japan, The Netherlands, France, and Canada. Saudi
Arabia by itself is way back, and in fact, is lumped in with the rest of the
Middle East in 11th spot. Saudi money lies mostly in the hands of its royal
family, who have it all over the world, mostly in real estate and financial
investments. Here's a web site you may wish to look at.

No, I haven't tried the Talbot for years either.
The current favorite here seems to be the Trumpet.

The best meal I've had in recent years was at the
Tesco in Tring. Sausage, bacon, egg, chips, and
a giant coke, all for about £3. Pure cholesterol.

I don't care for the Trumpet. When my wife and I went in there a couple of
years ago, the beer range was very poor, the menu looked standard and
expensive, and the only seating was at tables set for eating. When we sat down
at one to drink our beers, the landlord came over and asked in a rather
aggressive manner if we were eating. He seemed displeased when we declined.

It may have improved since then.

It used to be excellent. I suppose it depends on the
current landlord.

I got fed up with the pubs and restaurants around
Ledbury whose meals were geared around the microwave.

The Royal Oak at Marcle got like that, and that 'Mrs
Whatsername' inside the Countrywide store.
