Sans any final objections, I've done some front cover artwork, which can be
downloaded from...

http://www.wally.myby.co.uk/music/ULG/

There are two graphics, for Vol I and II, featuring my "Dalinian Landscape"
painting. The text incorprated as graphical elements of the files (ie, not a
fancy text overlay or anything).

I haven't done anything about track listings for the back/inside - this is
just the front cover stuff. I dropped one into my Nero CD cover proggy, and
it seems to print out fine on plain paper - will do one on matt
photo-quality card in a wee while.

Sorry m8, it's not my cup of tea at all.
If the others are fine with it, fair dues, but I wouldn't choose that.

They look loverly Wally. I'll need to get my printer hooked up, and print
them off before I commit to using them though.
They look like a prog. rock concept album cover from the 70's. Well done.

There's no imperative to use mine, that's just what I've offered. You can
use whatever you like.

Cheers. The way I see it, it's just an image which is used to make the album
readily identifiable - the nature of the image isn't all that important, as
long as it can be remembered and recognised.

As I have said all along, it is perfect for the job. Nice one Wally. -

I agree its not got anything to do with glasgow or ulgers?

Funnily enough, it does (ableit obliquely) - *Tongs Ya Bass!* is a clue, and
there's the Dali connection, the fact that it was done by a ulg poster, and
somehow, in the actual shapes depicted, the letters ULG are kinda suggested!
It could also be argued that it is a bit like this ng in that in a global
desert there's a structure built, that connects to other structures in a
weird way. lol!

The only thing bothering me is that Vol II should perhaps be similar but
different -- to help people know which is which.... maybe something as
simple as changing a colour, or mirroring the image, changing the font
colour or something like that... who knows... there may even be further
volumes if these are deemed a success. I'm sure Wally can sort all this out
though as he seems to know what he's doing, and it is his area.

The inside and back covers seemt o be the most problemmatic just now.
Someone should figure out the credits - certainly TomScotland and Wally
would need to get a significant and prominent mention, and then there's the
folks who submitted a selection...

What about everyone who has a selection gets a couple of lines (in italics
or something, beneath the track list perhaps) where they can say why they
picked the particular track -- or what it means to them.

Maybe someone should write a sleeve note explaining what it is all about/
how it came about?

Janie Thomson has great pictures if she doesn;t mind - and if folks don't
mind a Glasgow connection for the back cover/ behind the text on the
insides?

...and don't forget the date of publication for this various artists by
various piss artists ;-) -popeye

Wally, they are brilliant, and I for one will be using them. I wonder if you
could be persuaded to design back covers with spines etc, and a track
listing (2 different back covers, so we can put vol.1 and vol.2 in seperate
cases). I could have a go with photoshop but I'd rather someone with a bit
more artistic ingenuity had a go first.

Agreed on the two separate cases with their own track listings. I've been
having a mess about with the Nero cover designer, but it's just plain text
at present. The layout as it stands follows the track listings as given -
track number, song, artist, suggested-by.

Nero isn't the best cover designer in the world, and I'm not sure how
generic it is. I haven't come up with an idea for a back-cover picture yet -
my tendency is to use the same graphic as the front, but turned into a
monochrome version and faded so that the text is clear. Popeye's suggestion
of a Glasgow image might be worth pursuing if someone is willing to
contribute something (Janie? Colin?).

Might be better(?) to just do it in photoshop or PaintshopPro - get a
Glasgow image, wack it out of focus, colorize it or something, and then bung
on the text!

That way, it's a single image that anyone can get and print off. (just a
suggestion).

I still think submitters should get a wee chance to say why they picked the
particular song - just a couple of lines, and it would give the CD some
szgee szgee, something to read and think about as it's been listened to,
kindathing.

Maybe needs a thread of it's own to gather the comments together? - popeye

I'm happy for the picture on my homepage to be used. I think it's the only
one that shouts Glasgow at you. It's up to the group though. I didn't
suggest it as I've only been in the group 5 minutes, which is why I didn't
ask for a track too (maybe next time!). If you decide you want that one,
give me a shout and I'll dig out a larger file. Tiff? or larger jpeg? It's
not really CD cover shaped, but I suppose that could leave space to the side
for a track listing? Anyway, it's there if you want it, but I won't be
offended if you go with something else.
