Spam and chit-chat, like most of usenet :-)
Basickly, k'all :-)

Well first of all there will be a load of messages from people saying "Well
done, we really needed this". Then there will be a load of spam from
advertisers saying 'buy our tat', closely followed by a load of responses
saying 'go away' in various stages of politeness. Then there will be a bunch
of people saying 'I'm from x where are you from?' followed by a load of
people saying 'that's not relevant, on charter, covered by subsection II
clause iv,' Then someone will bring all his friends in from alt.rec.morons
and no-one will be able to post anything for days. Then a small breakaway
group will form a clique, and ignore anyone else posting, and two people
will conduct an interminable argument about some esoteric point of no
interest to anyone else.
In short, much the same as any other local newsgroup.

Such cynicism but probably warranted. :)

Unfair I think, I don't believe Jon was being provocative just cynical.
However he may prove me wrong :)

Nothing <snipped> because people and their servers are still finding
their way here, and it would be a shame if the late-comers missed such
an accurate foretaste of things to come :-)
You forgot something though, Jon. Sometime soon, someone will suggest
holding the first uld con/munch/moot/boink (1) at a suitable hostelry,
and the choice of establishment and date of event will be debated here
for a period of time long enough to brew the beer required (2).
Can't leave without conforming to the pattern, so: "Thanks" to Ian
.. we really did need this :-)
love,
Jilli
(1) Anyone got a suggestion for what to call a uld meet-up ?
(2) And I'll say I 'plan' on being there, when/wherever is decided...
(3) (4)
(4) Can I have an appropriate prize for writing the first footnote(s)
in uld, please? <g>

Two days later and I'm still trying to choose :-(
