I'm not sure, but I think it went
Baileys -> R&Js -> Papillons -> Odessys -> The Works
(I'm trusting you on anything before Papillons as that's as far back as
I remember - I'm just a youngster afterall ;-)

They leveled that one and built a private hospital on it.

In the late 80s/early 90's I remember that as "The Tube" and I seem to
remember it was something to do with the UWE student union at some
point.
I think it's called the Mandrake now.
> ... and the Dug Out! Who could ever forget the Dug Out!
Someone at work was talking about the Dug Out, but we couldn't work out
where it was. Any clues?
We were also talking about what's currently called "The Level" on Park
Row, we had a feeling that it had been there for ages, but couldn't work
out what it used to be called before it became the level. Any clues?

Yup, that's Park Row.

That sounds likely. Hmm. Perhaps google can help...

The place full of Nurse and Coppers was (and still is) the Mandrake. In
fact membership was free to Nurses etc because it was originally run
for the benefit of those who worked late shifts I was told back in the
days when the doorman was Richard. The anonymous doorway a little
closer to the bridge of Park St was Golds though. Or at least it wa
called that at one point, so there were two clubs, very close together.
The Mandrake was far more interesting though, barmaid Alexis Dowling
where are you now my vision?

The Dug Out was legendary and a copper called Det Skul was instrumental
in getting it closed down, I once had a bad blind date with his
daughter who told me all about it. Though it could have been BS. It was
supposed to the be a hotbed of drugs when that was exciting to a young
70's teenager. It has been gone so long that I doubt all the people who
claim to have been to it really have. It was downstairs on Park Row
approximately where the Dojo is now, if that's still there. I too claim
to have been there, it was very crowded and had that forbidden vibe
that made it interesting.
Curves was just up the road from Vicki's right? V's was at one point a
very sad and crap strip club. Curves was I think the one with no decent
loo, everyone went out the back and took a piss off the rear fireescape
into the car park behind?
The Granary was where the alledged Hells Angels of Bristol hung
upstairs out for heavy rock....
Was Magellans what turned into Martells? Behind the Library on Anchor
road? A casino now I think...
Lords was above Midland Educational on Fairfax St, demolished when the
Galleries apeared. Had Bristols first Post-Saturday night Fever
illuminated dancefloor...
Buzbys on Baldwin was too largerish for the likes of me...what were the
other names for that place? Still there right?
Loourdes was on top of Raquels on Frogmore St, first place with Lasers?
See me, older than dirt...
It was probably something else inbetween, but it's been at various times
Ritzys, Creation and is now the Sports Bar or something.
When it was Ritzys (Circa 1994) I fell asleep in the toilets one night
and woke up to find the lights off - I stumbled out into the club to
find them about to lock the front doors...

I did that once in Chicagos
