I see from adverts in the local press that Dave & Busters is to close
this week. The tone of the adverts implies that the closure is
permanent - ie not just for redecoration.

Anyone know why, or even what might be replacing them at Cribbs
Causeway?

At a guess I would say it's because it's monstrously overpriced...

Dunno what could replace it: it's a bloody huge site.

I heard they are not making enough money.

I second Daniel's thoughts.

I like D&B. Hopefully the new haunt will still attract the same class of
women :)

What you mean the same sad little girls that can't get into night clubs and
hang around the local fun-fairs looking for gullible blokes to buy them
drinks ?

Perhaps they'll put something decent there now rather than some crappy
American imported rubbish.

Oh no.... Sudden thought...... I bet it will be a Super-Bowl....

According to Points West it is because this outlet does not fit in
with the Bass Group's other leisure businesses.

Perhaps it was not making any money. I personally never felt
attracted to enter the place and couldn't care less!

It was/is a sort of "Gaming/gambling" parlour.
You walk in and there is a small raised bar area, walk a bit further and
there were a few snooker/pool tables, further still and you pass a sort of
restaurant (usually empty, but if anyone was eating it was that typical
fried American "stuff"

Then..... for the grand finale......

Loads of Video games and "Skill" machines.... No real money to be seen, all
games paid for by a credit card you pay to get credits added to.

Prises...... in the form odd paper tokens that spewed from the machines.

Collect one hundred million tokens and exchange them for a toy/prize etc.

Only ever been in there Twice, once to see what it was, and 2nd time 12
months later to see if it really was as bad as it was the first time we
went...

It was.

Cheers

There are at least two here in Chicago. They're just the same. You go in.
You buy credit for the games on a D&B credit card thing, and you get tokens
as a result of playing the games. The better you are, the more tokens.

I went to the one in the city once. Didn't like it.

It's based on a chain called Chuck E Cheese. These are pizza restaurants
with video games, pinball, skill games. This works, as it's designed for
kids - the ones from two to 12 or 14.

You go there. Buy pizza. Get tokens and the kids go and play. It's safe as
there is tight security on the door. They can't get out, and you can't take
them with you unless the codes they stamped on your hands as you entered,
match.

BUT>>>you should be thankful. There are other American "theme" places that
are even worse.

Chris - Ex-Chippenham, now Chicago.

The official line from Bass (the licensees) is that the overheads were
too high and they weren't making *enough* profit.

As if...

This is a decision by Bass, who are closing their Birmingham "D & B" as
well because of a 'conflict with the groups' long term plans'. I take this
to mean that they didn't get the returns they envisaged from either of these
operations. Certainly overheads are very high at Cribb's Causeway, and
Cribb's Causeway is hardly the place for a ravers' night out.

It sounds like the perfect place to take a friend's kids; Damien &

A friend of mine is a "bouncer" at Warner Village, he'd heard that they had
been losing £30k a day, hence they decided to cut their losses. The rumour
mill seems to think that a bowling company will buy the premises. About time
too!! Cribbs badly needs a bowling alley IMO.

Surely the whole point of places like Cribbs Causeway is that their
overheads are supposed to be cheaper than city centre areas????
