London is the capital of the UK and was once (perhaps in some ways
still is) the capital of the world. It is full of history and things
to see and do. It is probably the coolest city on the planet. That is
all fine if you are a tourist.
But Londoners are, by definition, not tourists. They live here. They
do not take an interest in the history. They do not go to see and do
the things that tourists do. They do not have the time to stand around
being cool. But they borrow several times their annual salary to buy a
terraced house that in Birmingham would sell for £40,000. And having
bought it, they spend an hour travelling each day, each way, to reach
their place of work. Whereas Brummies spend 20 minutes.
Londoners struggle through the traffic to reach their nearest
supermarket. Brummies have a choice of half-a-dozen within an easy
drive. And when they get there the prices are 10% lower than in London.
Okay, I think I've answered my own question. Londoners hate Birmingham
because they are jealous. Why am I here?

I think the answer lies in a riddle ;-)
Q. What's the difference between a Brummie and a Londoner?
A. A Brummie is a shining wit.

I came to Brum in 1985 for a years post grad course and I'm still here! Brum has
lots to offer and when our Londonite friends over come their prejudice and visit
us they are very pleasantly surprised at the old place. As for the property, the
place I live in would be an Arm and a leg in the smoke !!!
True, I moved from Wimbledon to Stirchley, however apart from the house prices
on the whole I preferred Wimbledon.

Takes me 40 mins to get to work in Brum, about 10 minutes longer than it did in
London. Unlike Birmingham, I could *easily* go by public transport - and get
change from the Bus driver :-).

I didn't find that when I lived in Wimbledon. Seemed pretty much the same to
me.

I don't think that Londoners give two hoots about Birmingham.
It's time people cut all this 'second city' and other city comparison crap, and
learned to enjoy Birmingham for what it is, rather than where it might be better
than.

I have to agree - Northerners always seem to be nice genuine people
(Scousers less so), whereas Londoners are always too full of bullshit and
can't take a joke.
Don't like the twats basically.

I'll add to my Cats' comments.....
Not just Birmingham, but take any place for what it is and enjoy. Every
place I've been to has both good and bad parts. If you keep snipping at
a place, then it only bothers yourself.
Now Walsall, have I told you all that's where I live?
