OK I checked.

It seems that after the chain sold out in 1988, to a former KFC boss,
out went beef dripping and in came vegetable oil.

Also, fresh fish went out as well, they now cook frozen fish.

So, sounds crap basically.

We haven’t got one in Birmingham anymore.

The Birmingham outlet happened (maybe deliberately) to open less than
a mile away from a chippy that already had its own world famous
reputation. Having been featured in newspapers across the world and on
Letterman’s show, when it was filmed for a week in the UK.

It was more than good enough to see off Ramsdens, despite its beef
dripping, they gave up on the location, it’s a MacDonalds now.

Presumably, though, if it is described as "haddock" or "cod"

One of the major selling points at their main outlet is that fish and meat
products are always fried in seperate fryers and that they fry only in

That was a matter of time. The last time I attempted to eat at a Ramsden's I
was handed the worst plate of chips, and possibly the worst fast food, I
have had anywhere.. and that includes Little-Thief service stations...

I'm sure the badly bruised, half-cooked, pallid excuses for chips that
lightly adorned the plate couldn't legally have been fed to a dog, but that
didn't stop the proprietors from having the gall to sell them to naive fools
who had entered their establishment expecting to be served food.

years or so ago, and wouldn't go again.

It is the epitome of poor management. You take a number rather than
queue, although there is a queue for the numbers. Then you stand around
waiting whilst lots of staff stand there doing nothing with piles of
food just sitting there. I still don't understand what was happening
and it still shocks me when I think about it.
