Hi all,

I bought a shower screen from B &Q when I got home I unpacked it and
threw away the packaging.

Now on trying to fit it I have found that a pair of brackets that should be
a left and a right hand one, are two left hand ones.

Can I still return it and pay the difference to a better quality item in the
same range?

Thanks,

Mick.

As a matter of contract law, they have an obligation to provide the correct
part and they have no right to insist that you return the product to them in
the original packaging.

But you may find that they insist you return the entire product in its
packaging so that they can exchange it for an identical package. Whether
they will let you have a refund or pay extra for a different product is
largely down to their goodwill, if any.

They tried to refuse me a return of a pack of 4 doorknobs which were
faulty because I'd opened the packet! I pointed out that I could only
tell that they were faulty by opening the packet, but she tried to fob
me off.
I asked to see the manager and got them exchanged, but they evidently
didn't want to know. Faulty goods must be exchanged, packaging or no.

Exactly so. I've aways found B&Q to be very good that way.
