At the time the game was cancelled the club said:
18th Dec: "All existing tickets will remain valid for the re-arranged
fixture. We will also offer refunds and publish a deadline date for
refunds once the re-arranged game date is announced, to enable us to
re-sell any returned seats to other supporters."
On the 24th Dec they said: "... have announced that their Barclays
Premier League clash at home to ... has been rearranged for Wednesday,
January 26, 2011. Kick off 8pm GMT.
The ticket office will be making an announcement regarding selling
arrangements for the new date in due course. The ticket office will be
making an announcement regarding selling arrangements for the new date
in due course."
Since then there has been no announcement on the web page announcements
page, and nothing else on the news page of the website.
Having heard nothing and unable to make the trip on a Wednesday, and
weekday tickets being a lot easier to come by and cheaper, I requested a
refund. Only to be told:
"... unable to offer a refund... our refund police states ... tickets
are returned by close of business Weds 12th Jan..."
The cut-off date was, apparently, mentioned at some unspecified time
post-purchase in a dark corner of the T&C section of the website - not
under the "News" or "Announcements" section. It is worth noting that
details of the other game to be cancelled was posted in the
"Announcements" section.
Do I have any hope of getting a refund?
Why on earth didn't you enquire about your refund as soon as the new
date was announced? I suspect, since they'd clearly communicated that
there would be a deadline, and that the deadline was there so that
they would have time to resell your seat, you don't have a chance
after leaving it this long.
They probably think you saw the mess they made against Blackpool and
thought 'sod it' :-)
If you note the timing, I was doing other things around December 25th
that involved being away from home and without internet access.
When I did see the announcement, I noticed that it said "The ticket
office will be making an announcement regarding selling arrangements"
and took that to mean that there had not, yet, been a decision and
another announcement would be made later.
"In order to obtain a refund, the Home Match Ticket must be returned to
the Club's ticket office no later than 72 hours before the commencement
of the Match."
The commencement of the match is 26th Jan, and the refund was refused on
17th Jan.
