Role Overview
Overall management and operational support of the technology infrastructure
of the business. This includes:
? Our portal, community, content, content providers and marketplace.
? The chosen market place engine (Atlas)
? Working with partners (suppliers, ISP, other services, partners etc)
? The office infrastructure
This is a flexible and varied role. The role's time breaks down into roughly
three equal parts, the time of which will need to be managed week by week:
? Operational management (1/3)
? Fixing, hands on support and change management (1/3)
? Specific projects (1/3)
Key Targets and Objectives
Developing the operational procedures for the office. Including
? Implementing the asset management system
? Implementing problem reporting and manage the BVR relationship
? Overall procedures (based upon framework provided by CTO), first draft by
Christmas. Refine over next few months.
Develop and implement a change control process (with supporting technology)
for;
? Reporting bugs, features and requesting enhancements
? Prioritising requests and making the change schedule visible
? Includes devising the procedures, selecting software, introducing the
procedures and creating awareness, supporting their use.
Migrate the office to leased lines ensuring continuity of service,
implementing secure dial in services and remote mail facilities

Main Responsibilities
General Operational Management
Overall operational management of the web site, including liasing with and
managing the hosted services, and content providers.
Change and Problem Management
Managing change releases into the web site -co-ordinating with the
Marketplace manager who manages change release for Atlas
Managing the development servers and environment.
Ensuring and monitoring the security of the site.
Manage back-ups, performance and capacity of the operational systems.
Devise short, medium and long term preventative measures
Quarterly Staff performance reviews
Monthly Operations Management
Provide and interpret performance and security statistics for the Web site
Board report contributions
Weekly Determined once Key Targets and Objectives have been achieved
Daily Operations Management
Applying the procedures for the maintenance and operation of the
infrastructure - security, back-ups, change control, budgets, asset
management, problem reporting and escalation - see Key Targets and
Objectives
Change and Problem Management
Identify, resolve, escalate and handle problems internally and externally.
Supporting staff in other areas with technical queries, bug fixes etc.
Liaison with BVR (our office technology provider) and other suppliers over
repairs and maintenance.

Web site technology and application administration (Apache, Unix/Linux, JSP,
HTML) Essential
Operational monitoring of web site (usage statistics, security monitoring,

Experience
At least 2 years, and preferably more, experience of infrastructure support
