Hi, I will be moving soon into a universal credit area. Currently I get
£188 per week(support rate + enhanced and severe disability premiums)
but having checked the calculators I will only be entitled to £251.51
universal credit including £89 per week housing cost and £16.02 council
tax. This seems to me that I'll be losing over £40 a week in the switch
over.

Obviously if true this is quite a big drop in income.

Just a brief note to thank you for using this NG
(uk.gov.social-security) for its proper intended purpose.

You are the first poster here for some time, and probably the only
on-topic poster here for at least a year, if not more.

However, traffic is so small that one has to doubt that you will get any
other responses.

See my other post.

Have you thought of checking out the various social security message
boards at Money Saving Expert?

There are plenty of people posting there and answering the queries of
others.

I have been told that as it's due to change of circumstance ,ie I'm
moving address, I am not eligible for transition protection.
At the thought of losing £40 a week I panicked. However I will be losing
the bedroom tax as I am downsizing which reduces the deficit to about £24.

It seems unfair that my status re disability has not got better but I am
seeing a drop in income due to legislation. I can of course see the need
to change benefit levels as disability gets better or worsens.

However after the initial panic , and after a careful appraisal I have
found that with some fairly minor economising I should be able to manage.

Luckily I have modest habits in terms of spending ie I don't smoke and
over the course of a year seldom drink except at Christmas.
