Graeme Le Saux and Robbie Fowler have been charged with misconduct by the
Football Association after their confrontation during Chelsea's match with
Liverpool on Saturday.

Le Saux appeared to elbow Fowler after being taunted.

from today's Times.

Anyone know what this was all about?

Yeah, there's a long article in the Guardian, which I'm sure
MYM will quote. I watched the Chelsea-LIverpool game and
realized what it was all about. There were some altercations
and Fowler said something and Le Saux shouted back, a free kick
was given to Chelsea, Le Saux was going to take it. Fowler
bent over, and pointed at his arse indicating, "come on, then
I'm ready" He was very graphic and no one was left in any doubt
about what he meant. There is a well-known chant 'Le Saux takes
it up the arse' and another 'Wenger likes like boys' which
are being repeated at football grounds. Wenger's sang-froid
seems to have stopped the latter, but Le Saux seems more and more
frustrated. The rumours that he is gay have been going around
for ten years (I certainly remember hearing about him in 1990
when I was coming out) and I do not know how they started,
though the Guardian says he once went on a camping trip with some
male friends for 4 days and they stem from that. He also likes
opera and doesn't like getting pissed with the lads, likes
antiques and generally doesn't fir in the football culture.
Whether he is gay or not is of course up to him, but he
is being taunted and this is a matter of wider (our) concern;
homophobia in football is rampant and this incident is coming
none too soon in the public eye.
